It depends on how you book your travel. If your spouse is on the same PNR as you, they are eligible for DL C+/FC upgrades at your status level. But, yes, if you are just buying FC/D1, having DL status is not going to provide much you wouldn't get anyways. And for anyone who is less than a DL Plat, the C+/FC upgrades are going to be a lot more hit and miss.
