The counter to that is that super discounted F fares aren’t necessarily bringing that much extra revenue whereas ridiculous expensive coach fares are… and it seems odd to be rewarding the former over the latter.

Perhaps drastic changes such as removing MQMs, rollover MQMs, AMEX MQD waiver will mean any changes won’t take effect until 2025 calendar year flying rather than 2024 to give everyone a “1 year warning” (I.e you’ll still get your normal rollover MQMs at the end of this year for next year but none after as they transition to a new system in 2025). It would also seem odd to change the qualification requirements in back-to-back years, but this is DL and I guess we shouldn’t put anything past them at this point.

my money is on this will take effect 2025 program year, but I do realize we’re talking delta, and they are a slippery bunch.

I believe when AA and UA moved to revenue based qualification, they announced it in the fall… for effect the immediate next calendar year. So that’s the precedent.

Add to that there a lot of Global Service (while Delta 360 seems like a small pool) - so 1K Is not really equal to Diamond

Yes

You have to fly 54 United segments for 1K, so 2 roundrtrips won't do it.

If you earn 24K PQPs on those 2 round trips, which could be full J fares to Australia or South Africa, you could earn 1K without needing to fly 54 segments.

It is but DL also has the rollover MQM program which AA and UA didn’t when they made the switch. It’s very well possible changes could take effect immediately next calendar year but I could also see a scenario where there’s a 1 year waiting period. When DL switched RDMs from distance flown to revenue spend, those changes were announced 10 months prior in early 2014 to take effect January 1st, 2015.

Incidentally, I do think DL will switch to a loyalty points system similar to what AA and B6 have (and UA will tune their PQP program to similarly value card spending), because under the current system people who don't spend $25k/year on credit cards to earn the MQD waiver are not particularly incentivized to spend money on them besides earning SkyMiles. For personal spending, $25k/year is a lot to put on a credit card unless you put rent / mortgage payments on it, and not everyone can/wants to put business expenses on their personal card and be reimbursed. A continuous points earning system instead of a cut-off means DL can capture some of the $10k/year spenders who might otherwise use a 2% cash back card – the fact elite status is hard to put a dollar value on (and most people over-value it) helps make up for the lower value of SkyMiles.

Going to an AA style “Loyalty Points” system will also encourage card use beyond current thresholds where many people shift to other cards once they know they won’t hit the next boost. I can qualify for one $30K spend boost per year but I have enough spend to hit the second boost in most years. So once I hit $30K and get the boost, other than expenses that are auto-billed to my DL AmEx, my remaining spend for the year goes on other CCs since there’s little incentive to put that spend on a DL CC. I can get a better return elsewhere. If DL goes to a system like AA, I possibly become encouraged to put more of my spend on the DL AmEx.

Oh, that! :) I'm 1K/MM and obviously still dont understand UAs system. I'm guessing that is by design...

No you are misreading the requirement - it is 54 segments and 18,000 PQP OR 24000 PQP - meaning if you spend $24k you get 1K with I think 4 united flights (2 round trips). I actually think the right way it segments plus money OR flight miles with money - so basically Delta’s approach without rollover (other than maybe a token head start like UA gives).

That is exactly what I posted - that you can qualify for 1K with 24K PQPs and thus don’t have to get the 54 segments (PQFs). You can also qualify with 18K PQPs and 54 segments. Which is what the screenshot of what I pulled from UA’s website shows.

If DL copied AA's LP system I'd be pretty happy with that. Part of the reason I dumped Delta is that I fly a lot of expensive short-hauls. AA rewards those types of fliers. DL currently does not.

I'm not saying nothing is going to happen but it is funny how we've spent half the summer discussing Reddit rumors.

What is social media good for but for discussing rumors someone heard from their father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate? :D

I'd bet money on the posted company memo being legit.
