In other words, an even worse configuration of the 739 than DL's version. Be glad your flight on this monstrosity is short.

DL messaging option worked well for me, sort of

I started at the web site today to change an award flight to the same itin, but a day later. Web site told me that it was available for an extra 8,000 miles - okay. But then it wouldn't book it for me. So I called and got the try chat or we'll call you back.
I tried chat - first to the bot that sent me to the app to try to do what I'd tried to do on my own. Then to a chat agent Axxxa. I explained what I was trying to do; she confirmed that I only wanted to change the outbound and said I'll work on it. She got me exactly what I aske for and for no add-on. So, just like the phone, there are agents who know what they are doing and agents who don't - I got a good one today.
My only issue with using the chat is that it probably took longer than it would have with an agent.

Same for me. I use the chat a lot, and like on the phone I had very good agents and some less knowledgeable, but never had a bad experience.

In todays episode of why chat stinks, heres the AI and the alternative universe loop I found myself in. Note: I only used it because Im in a quiet place where I cant make a phone call.

I have had the two extremes with chat this week...
One where I simply wanted to get added to the C+ upgrade list during check-in window (I was in exit row Main due to late booking when C+ was full, but seats had opened up). Agent managed to reassign us to row 34 and lose our exit row seats and still not add us to the C+ upgrade list. Said "sorry I understand your frustration, but it is now under gate control" (21 hours before departure).

Later, while in a meeting I used chat to successfully book a couple of 80,000 SM business class tix from Europe to Asia on AF which kept erroring out online. Agent did it in about 5 minutes, and got seat assignments on AF to stick over 6 months in advance.

The ultimate YMMV situation.

Yeah, it's also in two separate threads on Reddit. The OP claims they're filing a complaint with the DOT over this.

Whats dumb is that it's clearly a simple mistake. Planes were cancelled for weather and there were prolonged ground stops in NYC and WAS due to a strong squall line that extended from Ohio all the way to the Atlantic.

Im not sure which it is. They dont make the usual grammar and cultural mistakes even the best foreign call centers make while also Delta has a computer start the call which means that computer 1 fails then sends you to computer 2 to finish the call.

My money has been on outsourced untrained people like folks that dont have access to the same reservation systems as an average agent. Theyre also multi tasking and dont remember what theyre doing when they come back to you.

I start every chat with "Representative"
Never with asking to do something.
I get connected to a representative (usually within 1-3 minutes), and I have had great success with canceling flights, changing flights, applying RUCs, getting cleared RUCs returned after canceling flights. Maybe I am just lucky

I was told a year or two back that they used alot of people who were travel agents and used to Delta's program to staff the chat.....not sure if they are DL employees or through an outsourced company or what which would make sense.......they should somewhat know reservation's systems but probably have NO clue about DL policies, etc.... My experiences have been about 50/50.....some good and some downright horrible.....the one thing I do like is that the issues I have had since there is a digital trail in the chat I can usually get the issue fixed if they mess something up bad enough.
