Was this in F? Pretty sure I got this exact experience myself once flying SEA-PHX a year or two ago.

One person's "outdated old bird" that needs to be replaced is another's comfortable respite (at least in F.) A reminder that one person's opinions about planes aren't empirical.

Yes, it was F. Incidentally, we flew Alaska on the way out and the Alaska seats are much better albeit smaller (also newer airplanes).

The updated ones with larger IFE I've been on also have the same thick/comfy seats but just the new displays.

The yellowed plastic looks disgusting, especially when it's near the newer pale gray plastic in the OP's picture.

man, if you get disgusted by just the sight of discolored plastic, you probably just shouldn't travel at all

This is saying you have Stockholm syndrome without saying it, IME.

Pretty sure I had one of these on BGI-ATL back near the beginning of the year (was definitely a 737-800 at least, and the inside was very definitely pretty old). Not in first class, and quite frankly, I found the seats to be pretty excruciating. I'm not even sure I'd say it was better than the 737-900's to be honest, and yeah, those suck. It was one of a few things that contributed to me almost being unable to stand because my back ended up so bad the next day (in fairness, it wasn't the only contributing factor, but was more like icing on the cake after spending a couple weeks on a very uncomfortable bed).

Definitely agree on the seat comfort issue on these 738s. They used to be significantly more comfortable than the seats on the 739's but the padding has collapsed (like many chairs around my house that I cannot convince my spouse to replace) making them very uncomfortable, especially if you don't have your own built-in padding
