EWR to SLC via ATL FC on 737-800 - recline?
My mother-in-law fell while on vacation in Norway and had to have a partial hip replacement. As such she needs either a lay-flat seat or a seat with the greatest recline to travel back to the US.
She is flying SAS Business Pro (with lay-flat seat) from OSL to EWR, but then needs to get from EWR to SLC. One option is via ATL (DL2769 and DL476) with a 737-800 for the first leg, and an A321 for the second. How are the first class seats on these flights for recline? Anyone traveled them recently?

standard recline, nothing particularly notable ... check United EWR-DEN (also EWR-SFO if it's a legal routing) for wide-body service with lie-flats; either of those would minimize her time in a standard F seat

Note that specifically only the 4:30PM DTW-SLC flight (DL1263) is an A330 and this flight is an A321 on Saturdays. Also, the lie-flat 757 on JFK-SLC is limited to the 6:00PM departure (DL315) with remaining JFK-SLC flights being standard recliner FC.
UA looks to have a 787 with lie-flats on EWR-DEN with an 8:20AM departure (UA2292), but that won't really work for EU arrivals unless you spend the night at EWR.
Looks like OSL-EWR flight has a 1:15PM arrival which pretty much limits options to the DL JFK-SLC flight for same-day departure.

As noted by others widebody lie-flat service is going to be challenging and completely non-existent for a direct flight.
Given that, I would think just getting on the EWR - SLC direct on United is going to be your best bet. The recline is roughly the same on UA vs. DL for non-lie flat and at least she'll have a direct and won't have to change planes / seats / transit another airport.
Plus because UA and SAS are both *A you will be able to check bags all the way to SLC. She'll still have to pick them up at EWR to clear customs but then can just recheck them all the way through
