Basic Question regarding First class and meal options

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Just a simple question.

I have my trip booked to vegas for next week on Delta in first class. Delta sent me an email to have me select my meal preferences.

My question: Can I forgo all the choices (I don't like any of them) and just ask for a couple snacks when they are serving? Ex: cookies or pretzels, etc
Followup: If I can, do I simply not select any meal pref's?

Thanks!

You will have to make a choice online, and will not receive snacking privileges before your meal is completed. Lead FA can help you by inserting spoons of your non-desired food.

Joke aside, no need to worry, DL should have some snacks available, but safest to bring your own if you have specific preferences.

Yes, no worries, they'll try and accommodate you.

At least on international D1 flights, when you go to select your meal there's a "no main meal" choice. Since this prevents food from being wasted, it would be courteous to select this option, assuming that you can do it without spending hours on the phone. You seem to be sure that you won't want a meal.

OTOH FAs tend to eat unclaimed FC meals, so perhaps they like it when people refuse the meal and there's a spare for them to share.

Not offered on domestic flights. (Even domestic D1 flights I've been on don't offer it)

I've been told crew love it when leftover meals that are normally preselect order only. If I'm not going to eat, (say short JFK-UK/IRELAND/CDG/AMS or vv) I order a preselect order meal so that they can offer it to a passenger or crew member. There's always someone very happy to have ti. Especially crew since they eat whatever is left of the D1 meals on all their flights. There's also regularly a passenger that hears about a preselect meal and wants it. (Or didn't read and realize had to preselect it to get it)

On my D1 flights, the pursers were very emphatic that if you had pre-ordered a meal, you could change your mind and switch to one of the other (regular) choices. This surprised me, because IME with SQ's Book the Cook (J or F), you can't switch meals unless there are leftovers, which apparently doesn't happen often.

AFAIK it works the same with DL. If at the end it would mean a passenger wouldn't get their choice, purser comes back and lets passenger know either they must go with what selected or choose one of the choices that still are left.

I've seen that happen twice. In both cases the passenger understood. One they went ahead and kept the pre-ordered selection and one went with one of the other remaining choices.

Welcome to FT!

If none of the offered options sound good you could consider ordering a special meal (Kosher, etc).

+1

I normally do either diabetic (always a chicken dish) or kosher (normally fish IME) if don't like normal choices. I always get dirty looks from passengers with their "warmed" turkey sandwich!

I recently flew BOS-MCO in first and had a choice of chicken or pasta. I got the last chicken and it was a breast in some sort of yellow sauce. It was ok. There was no pre-flight meal selection that I know of but I appreciate the tip about diabetic meals being chicken.
