DL 767-300 decompression (DL 2353 9/18)
Looks like it took them about 6 minutes to get down to 10,000 ft.

Ignore the silly drama in this article:

Seems like it was handled pretty well... though 6 minutes seems a bit casual...

As long as the aircraft gets down before the oxygen in those face masks runs out, not a whole lot else matters. Doing the descent faster than necessary risks injury, for example someone whose seatbelt isn't fastened could hit the overhead panel with one's head.

from what I remember of 767 flight test work (~1981, so not really guaranteeing accurate recall), 5-6000 ft/min is the emergency descent rate

All these posts lately saying I should hop onto DL for a better experience than AA, should have mentioned you get a free Halloween Terror Ride with your base airfare - I'd sign right up
Interesting though. Curious to see what all comes of it.

Big issue with rapid descent is avoiding overspend which factors into the max VS. I believe they set the auto speed to the max, open descent and close throttle, basically allowing the auto pilot to descend as fast as possible while maintaining max speed
