Delta Pilot Arrested - accused of being intoxicated

Channel 9 local news (Fox affiliate) is reporting that a DL pilot was arrested this morning at MSP for being impaired at a checkpoint. He apparently was carrying alcohol too. [The details aren't very clear.]

DL PR has made a statement saying that their rules on this are among the strictest in the industry.

ADDED: he was scheduled to fly DL 1728 to SAN. The flight departed about an hour late, at 12:23 pm rather than 11:20 am, without him. He's 37 years old, so it's plausible that he was the co-pilot assigned to the flight.

Also, this seems to have been a check for alcohol at the crew TSA airport security checkpoint.

Glad he was caught. Depending on how much he had (the article doesn't say), this could have been a major safety concern for the flight.

Can't lie, I'm always a bit worried that this happens more than we know and too many are getting away with it.

This is the second Delta pilot in less than a year. Delta is way too soft in dealing with this issue. There used to be consequences for drunk pilots at Delta. Some US airlines are better and will only help if you self report. But you check in for your flight it is too late. That's the way it should be.

Was it the guy who got rejected on the Bachelorette? Drowning his sorrows?

Isn’t that the way it currently is?

Apparently Delta will let them go to rehab and let them keep their job even if they report to work drunk. WN and UA have a much stricter policy and they would be terminated from what I was told. Not sure about the others.

Hello Everyone,
Folks have asked why this post was closed. As is the case with all of these types of "Breaking news", they always follow a very similar path that eventually crosses the line of Flyertalk rules. So this thread was proactively closed.
