New 764 D1 Suites won't have doors

In a video Delta posted with its announcement of BOS/JFK-LGW service, Delta also unveiled the first photos of the D1 cabin on its refurbished 764s. Here are some screenshots:

I don't mind a change to the title, but I wouldn't say you can call these Suites at all. If you want to add a word, it should be seats.

I had to read it twice, really no doors on the plane. I glossed over D1 the first time, but then I put 2&2 together. Thought it was an April fools thing, like the glass bottom plane.

I read this as no separate boarding door for D1

These are interior reconfigurations of existing aircraft. DL can't just remove a door, and they probably can't block off a door for safety reasons.

OTOH an airplane without any doors at all would make it difficult for terrorists. I didn't realize that Boeing was that far into autopilot when we don't have reliable self driving cars yet. Three dimensions should be harder than two.

Since they remain the vantage model, I wonder if they are just re-skinned versions the existing seat. Would significantly lower the ROI, especially if they are going though the entire 767 fleet.

I don't care about the door, but the picture makes it look like it will be straight up 1-2-1 still (as opposed to staggered 1-1-1 like in Polaris). I understand there will be slightly more pitch but how is this going to be any better than the current D1 coffin seats? The design looks identical with incredibly tiny footwells.

That's what it looks like. Seat appears identical with minor mods. If anything it is a downgrade if you travel with a partner a lot given that the divider appears only semi-removable.

I like that these birds will have 34 D1 seats.

Still a decrease from the 40. Since D1 backs up against a hard bulkhead on these planes, I had assumed the reduction from 40 to 34 was going to enable a staggered 1-1-1 configuration. It looks like Delta is not doing this. I assume that there will be extra pitch so the footwell will be longer and "stay wider longer", but that doesn't change the fact that these seats will still be narrow and coffin-y. Unless they have broken the laws of physics, I will continue to avoid 767s which is disappointing as I cannot lay down flat in the current seats (shoulders are too wide).

are they maybe going to add a lav for the D1 cabin? imo that’s the worst feature of the current 40J config

I'm surprised they didn't do anything to increase the comfort of the D1 seats either. I flew D1 SLC-LHR on a 763 and it paled compared to an A330 on ATL-EZE. At least on TATL out of BOS and JFK, the flights are short enough to make this less of a factor than it is on TPAC or West Coast - Europe.

Good question. It would make sense. 1 row removed, plus two seats gone to make room for a lav - that gets you to 34. That said, not sure beancounter logic would allow adding a lav while reducing the number of seats.
