if he's worried about making an appointment in NYC, then having the flight moved up would be good, not bad, wouldn't it? Regardless, Flight 407 wasn't rescheduled - 8:40 is its normal scheduled time every day. (it officially left a couple of minutes late but is still expected to land early).

If I had to speculate the flight was at say 9. OP finds out they need to be in NYC earlier than planned, even with the flight getting bumped back 10-20 minutes it's still not early enough, or early enough to get a free change to the flight they need.

OP says his/her flight got bumped back, not up.

How long has DL407 departed at 0840? Is it possible there was a different number that departed before 0840 at some point in the past?
