Accidentally booked wrong date
I accidentally booked the wrong date on a flight that costs ~$120 - booked about 2 weeks ago. I'm prepared to eat the cost, just rebook the correct date (one day earlier), and hope for cancellation/schedule change. The flight was purchased from and marketed by Delta, but operated by WestJet.
The flight is 1 month from today. I should be silver by 5/29 and hopefully gold right around 1 month from now. But right now I have no status.
Is it possible that a sympathetic agent would waive the change fee? Should I try phone or twitter/facebook? Booking code and price is the same for the flight one day earlier. Do you think I should wait until after I reach silver? The risk being that the needed flight is no longer available or significantly more expensive. I assume being silver won't help at all, but not too familiar with Delta's "rule breaking" for elites. Thanks.

Silver won't help. You might get a sympathetic agent, but it's not very likely. Once the fare increases, you can forget about DL waiving the fare difference, so if you're gonna call, don't wait. If it were me, I'd call once and ask politely, if rejected, I'd just eat the cost and rebook.

If you do decide to eat the cost, don't bother cancelling the ticket. If the schedule changes significantly between now and departure, you should be able to cancel without fees and get your money back.

Depends on whether OP means "Winnipeg Jets" or "New York Jets".
The Winnipeg Jets are at least in the Conference Finals and OP's profile says MSP which while Minnesota does have an NHL team, it is also not too far from Winnipeg.

Update
Update - Called the reservations line. The representative looked at the ticket, noted on the phone that the prices were the same and thanked me for all of my upcoming booked flights. He stated he would make the change for free as a one-time courtesy. So far on Delta (5 segments total this year) I've had a pilot personally assist me in finding out what happened to my gate-valet luggage (it was found, no problems, just a little late), an FA bring me a cup of water before takeoff when I boarded late after running from the checkpoint, and now the waiving of the change fee. All with no status. Pretty happy with my decision to switch to Delta!
Unfortunately it's the NY Jets (but this is our year
).
