My father's Flight from DTW-ORF was canceled late Saturday night. Delta rebooked him on the last flight Sunday 4/9 24 hours later. He was flying in for a family function that the Delta rebook would have caused him to miss. I bought him a walk up one way ticket on American. What are my chances of getting reimbursed for the American and the unused Delta out bound flight?

I drove home from RSW on Wed....Delta rebooked me on flights for Thursday but those got cancelled and then no rebooking after that. Does Delta think I am still at RSW trying to get home? No calls or any follow ups.

Not perfect, but a vast improvement and hopefully the light at the end of a very long tunnel.

email delta, send the details and receipts. I've had success before getting re-imbursed for issues like this, but it is by no means a guarantee. At a minimum, they'll refund your unused flight(s) and likely toss some miles your way for the inconvenience.

So how long until we get an updated 'official' statement from DL about this whole mess? I got a short email a couple days ago apologizing for the poor performance but that was it.

It is obvious that there was a massive scheduling and operational issue on top of the weather. So many flights kept getting delayed by 15 min at a time waiting for crew that were not available or never even knew where to go. I witness this happening all over the place in ATL. There were periods when even the storms cleared that almost nothing was being released for hours.

I'm wondering if the timing of the DL earnings call (which I think is Wednesday) plays into this. Public companies needs to be cautious what they divulge during the earnings period. I doubt we hear much, if anything, specific prior to the earnings call and Q&A.

In this article from the NYT https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/09/b...-article-click DL continues to blame the weather and added:
It attributed its continuing troubles to difficulty staffing flights in accordance with federal rules governing how long and how often flight crews can work.
IOW, it's all something/somebody else's fault.

AJC: Hundreds of stranded bags left at ATL in aftermath of Delta flight cancellations

This morning's news:

AJC.com: Hundreds of stranded bags left at Hartsfield-Jackson in aftermath of Delta flight cancellations (9:29 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017)

Last night, one of the local television newscasts did a live report from an ATL baggage carousel -- the reporter made a point of saying that most of the bags had "yellow priority" tags on them.

Of course, some bags need to make the circle with nobody there to grab them first .

Also, I think we have a new leader in the clubhouse for "Most money made from VDB compensation for one trip" :

DL ops may be getting back to normal today - but it's still before 10AM Eastern.

Sunday, 4/9/17, was again grim. Both data snapshots courtesy of Flightaware. Data are by operating carrier so Delta Connection flights appear under SkyWest, Endeavor, etc.

Last cancellation was made around 6pm last night EDT. Probably some crew rest delays causing a slower morning but then back to normal.

Delta should be thankful for United to grab the ugliest headline there is today.

Front page of Fox News. Even when Delta has a 4,000-cancellation meltdown, United still can't catch a break!

Airlines overall are pushing it. extreme overbooking, squeeze every bit of profit at expense of service. They can lobby for rules to make themselves rich, but this will catch up with them.
