TSA pre check at JFK T1

Flying JFK-ICN on DL codeshare, KE metal out of Terminal 1 at JFK. I Believe that Korean Airlines does not participate in TSA pre-check. We will be in J class; Book the ticket through Delta as an award. Will we either be able to use TSA pre-check or does Korean, like some other airlines, escort passengers in business class through a special line at security?

anyone with recent experience?
Thanks

Why would you not post this question in the KE forum?

Because it's a Delta code share. "Purchased" through Delta with an 006 ticket number. DL 1001.

Sorry but didn't know if as such TSA would treat using DL or KE rules.

Is that sufficient reason to satisfy you?

Operating carrier is the relevant question. You have a KE flight departing JFK.

Others are trying to explain that DL has nothing to do with this.

No, you are not Pre-Check eligible. In order to be Pre-Check eligible, the operating carrier of your flight and you must both participate in Pre-Check. As KE is the operating carrier and it does not participate, it does not matter that you may.

The exception is that TSA despite announcing that it no longer grants exceptions to the requirement that one enroll in a TTP, continues to grant Pre-Check on occasion. You may get lucky and have it as a result of that concession.

Take a minute to send a note to KE complaining that it has not joined Pre-Check. Many other major non-US carriers now participate (look at TSA's website for a list). The more passengers who complain, the better.

If you fly . . .

USA-DL-JFK-KE-ICN . . .

and check in thru DL.com (if that's possible) . . . or at a DL ticket counter in the USA . . .

Who controls Prechek? Is it possible to get it on the DL domestic flight, but NOT the KE flight?

Yes.

People get confused all the time. All that matters is the operating flyer. Period.

Needless to say if you originate on a flight operated by a Pre-Check participating carrier and connect somewhere with no connection checkpoint, the issue of Pre-Check or not does not arise at all. E.g., IAD. All arrivals and departures are on the sterile side of the same checkpoint. Thus, if you arrive on a carrier which participates in Pre-Check, it does not matter whether your departing carrier does and that can be on a separate ticket entirely (so long as you do not need to leave the secure area to obtain a BP or reclaim / check luggage).

Is there a DL flight before this? If so DL should issue you the BP FOR the KE flight. Since its issued by DL if you get PreCheck, it'll have PreCheck for the KE flight. This is important since you must change terminals landside from DL TO KE at JFK. Even if KE wants you to get a new BP don't give up the DL issued BP since it can be used for PreCheck.

If however you're just flying KE then you'll be checking in with KE. Since they don't participate in PreCheck you won't get it.

Regardless of who you are flying, who issued your ticket, etc, I don't even think (and I could be wrong) that Terminal 1 at JFK has a pre check line. No pre check facility in that terminal means no pre check at all. Period.

You get PreCheck for all BPS issue at once or none. If you checkin with DL and they issue you a BP for the connecting KE flight (and of course you get Precheck) then the DL issued BP for the KE flight will have PreCheck on it. It's why before VS joined PreCheck I always had the agent at checkin for my separate DL ticket add the VS PNR to the DL PNR. This is what they do when you want to have bags checked through on different reservations. By doing so DL would then issue a BP for the VS flight. Since the BP was issued by DL a PreCheck airline, the BP for the Virgin flight had PreCheck on it. This was important at LAX where you had to change terminals landside between T5 and T2.

Basically when your checkin, either all your BPS say PreCheck or none. If you later have a flight change, then when they check you in for new flight the determination is made again. Again it'll be an all or nothing determination.

when you checkin with a non PreCheck airline TSA still determines if you should get it. However since the airline doesn't participate they can't give you a BP that says PreCheck. If you then go into the DL App or ask DL to reprint BPs after the other flight it'll show PreCheck. This is because DL can issue a BP with PreCheck.

flyerCO explanation sums it up. Last year I had a JFK-ORY codeshare flight and my BP was issued by DL at my original check-in station. I got Precheck on the DL issued BP, and went through TSA in Terminal 1 without issues. Picture attached.

I have had different experiences. I've got PRE for only one segment, although this doesn't seem to be the norm with DL. AA is different, and most of the time I end up getting PRE in a BP for a flight that doesn't originate in the US (CDG and SDQ have been the most frequent for this).

Only one segment when all BPS issued at one time? PreCheck shows up even when flying to US as long as the BP issuing airline participates. A DL BP SIN-NRT will show PreCheck though of no use.
