Super empty flight
I was on ELP-DFW 11FEB on AA and only had 36/140 filled
|
Flying PHX-MSP Redeye this Friday night and seat map is 80% empty on a domestic 763. When I was booking the redeyes to ATL & DTW were pretty wide open as well.

I did that cheap HKG flight from ORD last week, as a mileage run/mini vacation. I've never seen so many empty seats on multiple flights. I know February is slow, but I've never seen an ATL-MCO flight empty.
Tuesday 2/7 MCO-JFK Went out with 3 empty seats in F, after NonRevs were cleared. I would say total load was 60%-70% https://s22.postimg.cc/lmuecigtd/Sc...207_135343.png JFK-ORD Only flight without empty seat in F. Probably 70% load. Wednesday 2/8 ORD-SEA On Alaska, 90% load. SEA-HKG Probably around 85% load. Monday 2/13 HKG-SEA Load was around 25% if I had to guess. I was jealous of those in Y who had all 4 middle seats to themselves while I was in bulkhead Y+ without a neighbor. SEA-ORD On Alaska, looked to be oversold. ORD-ATL MD88, 3-4 empty in F. Maybe 20 people total in Y. Load factor probably less than 20%. ATL-MCO A321. Person at gate was asking to change seat. Gate agent said not to worry, there are 140 empty seats on the flight. That means a load factor of 27%. |

Possibly the HKG-SEA flight was affected by the recent Executive Order travel ban/non-ban???

At MSP, TSA is now warning people to allow two hours. The worst times are expected to be 1-5 pm tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.
Apparently no one is expected to come to MN for Presideent's Day Weekend as there's no warning about lines on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday. |
My Orlando-Raleigh flight was half empty yesterday. Wednesday late morning, a 717 vs. a CR9, most conferences hadn't ended yet and no spring break. F filled, but just barely.

Back in the late 70s, True Value Hardware in Minnesota sold 2 foot tall plastic penguin lawn ornaments (think pink flamingo but without the long legs). I bought a dozen and brought them with me as gifts when visiting friends. They never get seats but they did fit nicely into overhead bins.

PVD-ATL and ATL-MCO, between both there is are 2 available seats in the seat map (1 in coach on one flight, one in FC on the other). I am #8 for 0 on one, #9 for 1 on the other, as a DM.
These empty planes seem to evade me... |

Flew JL 7, BOS-NRT, in J, and it was maybe half full in both J & Y. My return will be on CX 812, HKG-BOS, in F in a couple of weeks. As of right now, I'm the only person in F and there's hardly anyone in J or Y.
Oddly flying JL9 today (in air right now) and I'm one of two in F, maybe 10 in J and basically empty in Y. Recent DL flight SIN-NRT even had a couple empty in J. I haven't seen that in years. |
On February 13 I flew the 11 AM CRJ-200 from BWI-RDU and it was less than half full. That almost made it a tolerable plane to be on...almost.

Have a flight next Fri from MCO-ATL-DCA both on 321s and they still are showing 120+ seats on both legs. Took a MCO-ATL flight last week that went out with 80 seats.

This time of year it really depends on when and where you fly. The usual suspects are usually jam-packed, but I've seen a fair share of flights with loads well below 50%. I've seen that most often on early or late flights in particular. It's truly a YMMV situation.

My wife and I flew LHR-PHL on a 757 and there couldn't have been more than 50 people on the flight. I think there were only 5 of us in C+.
I'm flying DCA-DTW-SAN next week; got upgraded on the DCA-DTW at 5 pm on the sixth day before the flight; got upgraded on the DTW-SAN (757-300) sometime overnight a few hours after getting upgraded for the first segment. The return flight out of SAN on a Thursday afternoon to SLC is almost sold out in both cabins; the connecting flight to DCA on a 16 F seat cabin is not quite as crowded and might have an upgrade possibility. |

Curious, are mid-August JFK-LHR planes full?

+2 data points
This morning's DCA-DTW was pretty light. Half full or maybe a bit more. I have seen that before on Saturdays but not typically Fridays. DTW-PVD was full but on a CR9 so less surprising.
