What's the going rate for compensation on a canceled international flight that ends up canceling your entire trip? I was on MSP-DUB on Wednesday 9/25 which was canceled due to a mechanical. We boarded for the 9pm departure only to have an electrical problem. Tried a system reset which didn't work and said no replacement part in Minneapolis so they had to fly on in from ATL. There was a delayed flight from ATL landing at 1am. We stay in the terminal until about 11pm when they finally told us the crew would timeout and the canceled the flight. The Delta auto-rebooker couldn't get me on the nonstop to Dublin the following day and there weren't any great options (multi-stop and arriving in Dublin 2 days later) so I went home around midnight with nothing confirmed for a rebooking. Apparently when I woke up at 7am the next day I had been rescheduled onto a MSP-EWR-CDG-DUB that was departing MSP at 7am (which I of course wasn't going to make). Since it was a short trip, losing 2 days on the front end was a big deal so I just canceled my trip and requested the refund.
Delta proactively gave me 10,000 miles which seems a little light to me. I had to cancel hotel reservations, car reservations, tours. Wasted money on an Uber to/from the airport, had babysitters at home that had to reschedule, pet care costs, PTO wasted and all-in-all a lost trip to Ireland. What should I be asking for as reasonable compensation? I'm a Delta PM if that matters at all. |

So I was in DEL on thursday night. Went to check in for the AF 1230 flight. My ticket was not issued correctly and I was not on the flight. I was in PS. I ended up waiting in the airport for about four hours until KL at 0355. Then I flew coach back for the remainder of the trip.
What would this be worth? Anything? |

You probably want to post this on AF/KL.
Regardless I’d expect the fare difference between PS and Y plus a goodwill gesture of some sort. |

Honestly I wouldn't expect any more than what you already got. 10K miles plus a full refund back to original FOP is going to be pretty standard here. Consider the 10K a bonus. In the future, try and have a Plan B, Plan C, etc and be ready to call in and request rebooking at the first sign of trouble. The auto-rebooking system isn't all that great all the time, and my experience is that front-line gate agents are practically useless in these situations. Sorry your trip didn't work out. I've had things go haywire at the last minute and it truly sucks.
I’ll send a note to Delta letting them know I think 10,000 isn’t enough and see what they offer. Just was curious if anyone had some comparable benchmarks so I could push back again if needed, but I’ll probably just take whatever they offer next. |

Was this a DL issued ticket? If so, I can see a case for DL compensation due to their ticketing snafu with the AF flight. If other circumstances caused AF/KL to issue the ticket, then I’d go that route.

i wouldn’t consider the full refund any sort of gesture by Delta since it’s required by law. So in my mind the 10k miles is all they gave me so far. Given that people get 2,500 miles for delayed luggage, or some guy that got 2,000 miles for a broken air vent it seems like 10,000 for a canceled trip is light.

As for benchmarks, I received 10K miles a little over a year ago (unsolicited) for inoperative seatback entertainment in D1 from CDG-SEA. And recently received 7500 miles when I sent in a complaint regarding no PDB on a non-delayed flight. So from that perspective I can agree 10K is a little light. But personally I don't think you are likely to receive more unless it was a high dollar ticket, high status, etc. I could be wrong though. Let us know what you come up with. |

Hi all. I was/am on the flight. It was diverted to IAD due to a smell of burning plastic in the back of the plane. I was in row 2 so didn’t notice anything myself. Delta had no maintenance crew at IAD. They had to bring in a crew from DCA.
That eventually failed so they sent another plane. We took off 6.5 hours later from IAD. They provided a $12 meal voucher which is hilarious since we were basically there for 2 meals and a soda is $4. Anyway, what is appropriate compensation for this? The staff at Dulles was rude, incompetent and snarky. It was prob the worst Delta experience I’ve ever had. Diamond if it matters. |
Mechanical delays. Missed connecting flight. Compensation?
At msp.
Missed My connecting flight to IAD because mechanical delays from earlier flight. Now I'm going to South to Atlanta then back up to IAD. :( 2 1/2 hr flight from msp to IAD is now 6hrs plus the 3hrs waiting at msp. :( What compensation do I get? And who to talk to about it? Thx Edit: I have no status with Delta |

I have gotten 16,000 miles for a flight that was delayed about 22 hours.

Mechanical Delay DEN>SLC this past Sunday. Originally scheduled to depart Denver at 230, departed at 645. DL texted a $12 meal voucher as we boarded and followed up with an apologetic email and a token 6K skymiles. So, roughly a $50 "I'm Sorry".
