There's no way that Delta doesn't reimburse for this.
This is my sense, probably that the pilot in charge is authorized to use discretion for stuff like this when it's appropriate, just as FAs traditionally sometimes offer free drinks to everyone on board during delays.

Last month I had a bad MX delay and sandwiches were delivered to the gate. I'm certain that the GA or mechanics did not pay for that food.

I'm sure the Pilot didn't order it... unless ordering meant "Ops, Delta 1561, hey could you get some stuff out here while we wait, we have 150 souls on board that sure would like a pizza" and the station whipped out the IROP charge card and dialed the local pizza hut.

It would be an interesting Onion story if the pizzas had to be screened:

60 Pizzas miss delayed Delta flight after waiting at TSA. Need Help Center happy to "rebook"

Why does this same story seem to surface again every few months? Pizza during IRROPS happens somewhat regularly at this point so I'm not sure why news sources continue to report on it as if it's some kind of special one-off event.

Upon closer examination, I believe you are correct. The camera was held up high which resulted in an unusual perspective. But you're right - those are definitely 737 bins and PSUs.

Wasn't Pizza Hut - it was Marco's, and they've already issued a press release:

Speaking from experience, 40 pizzas is nothing, but preparing them all at once for delivery to a single customer takes some coordination.

That is my understanding as well. People who get off are not getting back on if they change their mind. That reduced the choice for a couple of us to where would we be more likely to get home from; through ATL (several late nonstop flights still available to BOS) or through CLT (only two real chances and one was through DTW and DTW had just cancelled several flights and the other was through CVG.)

Again, no one got off but we were told if we did, we were on our own and our bags would catch up with us later.

My pilots yesterday gave Dunkin Donuts to the whole plane. Our DTW-LGA flight yesterday had to deal with weather issues and a ground stop at both airports, and we ended up diverting to Hartford, CT (BDL) to fuel up and wait it out. Very long DTW-LGA flight!! The pilots apologized that donuts (at BDL) were all they could come up with in the time they had. It was appreciated.

There is a "Paul Harvey' (The Rest of the Story) to this:
Delta had 6 aircraft that were diverted to Knoxville and the Station Manager
was the one that ordered out the pizzas (all told 125 of them) and arranged
for a police escort on the field to deliver the timely food so that when clearance
came from Atlanta the flights could resume with minimal delay.

So it was not a Captain but the ground crew who made a great save.

I would suspect that in the future when these events happen that the airlines
MAY look at this as a way to salvage PR and keep control of difficult situation
to minimize the delay.

They're supposed to be worn around the neck on the outermost garment. Any Sky Priority luggage overlays that are still in good condition should be made into bracelets.

Do other airlines' elite bag tags have any identifying info like FF#/name? I just smile blankly when people ask me what the point of our bag tags are.
