Rerouting DL Codeshare from AF Pilots' Strike

Oof, I just saw that AF has now canceled their ABJ-CDG flights for five days straight (Saturday through tomorrow) due to the strike. I'm asking here because I want to be prepared to act quickly if my DL codeshare AF flight on the 25th is also canceled. My booked route is ABJ-CDG-ATL-DCA (with the last two legs on DL metal).

With no good alternatives because it's an AF/SN duopoly here, I'm assuming that means they'll try to reroute me on SN to get me out of West Africa. So would DL then also reroute me to my final destination on SN/UA, or will they reroute me to Brussels and let me take DL the rest of the way to DCA?

Also, if I am put on SN/UA for one or more of the legs, will Delta likely honor a request to credit me for the miles of the route I booked and not the one I end up flying?

DL will honor it. Just e-mail them, asking for original routing miles. It has worked for me in several instances.

It is, more-or-less, a free world for most of us, and if the AF pilots want to strike and bankrupt the company, that is fine with me. AF is OK, I have used them for decades in the Middle East to and from Europe, but I am done with AF. I refuse to use an unreliable airline with AF seat or on a DL seat code share.

Do what you wish, pilots, but to stay in business one must stay in the air.

The experiences reported to date suggest you can pretty much ask for whatever works for you (within reason). AF is definitely routing paid itineraries on non-SkyTeam airlines, though I don't know what will happen if you call DL. You might need to call/tweet AF.

There is a thread in the Air France forum if you'd like to discuss the politics of the strike.

Thanks.

Update: Got an SMS from AF at midnight local time announcing the flight cancellation and I then immediately called Delta. By that point the Brussels Airlines flights were full, so after 60 minutes on the phone I was routed through Accra. However, I'll be getting in 18 hours later than my original itinerary. Should I be able to request compensation for this delay if that was my only option? Does it change anything that I was previously scheduled to transit through the EU but now am only transiting through West Africa? All I asked for when I was rerouted was comped EC for the 11 hour flight to JFK, but was told he couldn't and that it'd be $115.

You can try filing for EU 261 compensation against AF for canceling your flight (or failing to reschedule you within 5 hours of your original flight), but so far nobody seems to know if this situation warrants compensation or if it's "exceptional".
