Security at AMS
Anyone flown out of AMS recently? With increased security at many European airports I am wondering what time I should get to the airport for a 8:00 am flight to DTW. Any suggestions? Thanks!

As a PM, you have access to the elite check in, passport control, and gate security lines. You also can use the KLM nonschengen lounge. IIRC the deadline to check in and/or drop checked bags is T - one hour but there's probably a suggestion to arrive at eht airport two hours early.

The last time I was there, the only security check at the front of the airport was to look at your BP. The real security screening is done at each individual gate. You ought to be at your gate 75-90 minutes before scheduled departure.
This also means that you can access the KLM Crown Lounge without going through a regular security screening.

As DL PM you will be SkyTeam Elite+ with access to Sky Priority lines/ lanes for check in, passport control, and security.
Checking in at anytime between 5.45 am and 6 am should give you enough time to go through security, passport control, then get to KLM Lounge/ Club 52 for a quick breakfast, and then get to your gate at 7 am.
You will have to undergo another set of security questions and carry on bags and body scan before entering the secured gate area.
Boarding usually begins at 7.10-7.20 am.,

As a DM in BE, I would plan to arrive at the airport at 6:30 am for an 8:00 am flight.
I try to avoid going to the gate before real boarding starts, specifically with passengers allowed to walk along the jetway and enter the aircraft. I hate going through gate security early and being confined to the holding pen.

Just flew out of AMS yesterday and the holding pens are pretty awful. Bathrooms down a flight of stairs, but nothing else in the gate area we were in. Stores just outside, so I guess you can plan ahead.

I would suggest checking out the gate around T-75, but I would recommend watching the line before going through security. Wait until the line is pretty much down to the last person before going through. You don't want to be in the holding pen any longer than you have to.

I have a 7:15am AMS-LHR flight coming up, and I am planning to get to the airport at 5:30am so that I have time for breakfast at the KLM lounge.

The lines is very long. It was so extremely busy. How I can do something for me. I didn't want to missed the flight.

At that gate there was no priority line for sky priority. They also boarded Skypriority and didn't do a separate announcement first for business class (not that mattered since they didn't do a PDB service).

I did AMS/LHR a couple weeks ago and you do have to go through gate security and the holding pen. My gate number I believe was E44 and it was a LONG walk from the KLM lounge.

KLM tends to use the SkyPriority signs in the gate areas just for decoration (in those nice KLM colors). They rarely enforce lines or do separate business class or elite boarding.
