Some help/advice

Hi All

I usually don't post much cause I usually go with the flow. I have a few miles on Delta ... pushing 3M and have over 1M in the bank. I don't use miles much as mainly my travel is business and when I don't have to work, the last thing I want to do is travel some more. Been loyal with Delta ...dating back to Western being incorporated into the system...

Anyway, Wife and Child Unit have wanted to take a few trips lately and so want to use miles. I go to the award page, look for suitable travel, find flights that are close to desired time table, etc. I look at the seat assignments when looking at possibilities so they can sit together and then book the award and all of a sudden the whole plane is sold out once I hit the button to book. Web page let's me book the trips but with no seat assignments.

Now, am I being unreasonable here or does this seem a tade shady? Not asking for Economy plus or stellar seats ... just two together ... it looks wide open and then nothing. Maybe I am tired and preturbed. Red Eyed SFO to ALB last night and then had a long day with the clients... so don't want to lose my cool until I think things over but it just seems, when booking award, you should be able to get what they present on the web as far as availability.

Please advise. I asked nice reservation lady whom I might speak with and she hung up on me. That sort of twisted a kink in my stomache beacust I very very very veryy rarely complain and like giving out those job well done cards...

just sayin

thanks for any advance or insight

Mike

When you book on delta.dumb, you can usually select seats during the process rather than after buying the tickets. This can be used to "guarantee" your seats. Or call DL and book the tickets by phone, even after you've found what you want by looking at schedules on delta.dumb. The phone agent can grab seats for you during the booking process.

Depending on the child's age, the GA will find seats together for you or you can get separate but desirable seats and then ask other passengers to swap. Or you can pay EC fees to guarantee getting good seats together.

I would book it , and then deal with seats later.

Meanwhile, if you have been here for a bit, you know how helpful descriptive titles could be. Can you imagine if everyone that wanted some help/advice used the same title?

I'm guessing the seats you are seeing are preferred seats which would only be available if you were travelling with them. It would be helpful if you would provide more details about the seats you are seeing, as at this point, all we can do is speculate. The reality is that using your miles to book seats for others does not magically confer your status upon them and grant them access to preferred seats. You might find an agent willing to do so, but they are not obligated, so it doesn't really help to get into an argument with them about it. I'd suggest trying @DeltaAssist and see if they would do it. Remember to ask nicely, and indicate that you understand they are doing you a favor.

When you are booking DL.com will show all available seats. But once ticketed and the passenger info has been entered DL.com will restrict the seat display to those seats to which the passenger is entitled.

When looking at the seat map before booking make sure to look for white seats on the seat map. White seats are non-preferred, non-EC. Blue seats are preferred (restricted to Medallion) and EC are in green.
