Three flights this summer upstairs, I think any seat is good, although the old ext row seems especially nice to me. Board early and try to visit the flight deck, the pilots seem to love to talk about the 747s.

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to stop by the cockpit before and after the flight...as this will probably be my last flight on the DL/NW 747-400... we will all miss it very much, but at least N661US will be open for tours at the ATL museum. It is great that such a legend is being preserved! ^

This will likely become official tomorrow at the earnings call announcement. Real question is the delivery schedule of these 11 planes. They will have to be converted to 656K tons MTOW and the RR engines matched to the RR 895 currently operating Delta's 772s. RR/SQ/DL must have struck a great deal to get them up Delta's operating standards, a rather tall task considering how SQ has used many of these planes. I would assume they'll start arriving next year but will take several months of refitting by TechOps to bring them up to standard. This is pretty much the end of Delta's 747 operations even before the A350 starts showing up. There are several more questions that I along with many on this board will have and I'm sure we'll hear many of those answers shortly.
I'd say there's a great chance Delta's newest product in D1 debuts on these refurbished aircraft as I highly doubt they'll put in generation one of their D1 product considering they haven't ordered of those seats from Contour Aerospace (now Zodiac) in five years and Zodiac's chronic delays on seats. (See AA)

I don't know what excites me more, the A359 in Delta's fleet or a new flat bed product. I'm gonna do everything in my power to be on that inaug flight.

Any chance delta will parade the 747 around the country on various routes prior to retirement? It would be nice to see them send it off giving us a chance to ride or see it one more time.

wishful thinking though...anyways it might return but I highly doubt it unless another N664US or similar event occurs.

I would venture to say that's likely. The DC-9 did a little hub hopping for it's last scheduled day of operation. I'd guess the 747 would do the same.
