MIA-FLL Non-Stop
DL 1704 this evening. Although it is due to a weather diversion, this would be a really interesting flight. Which begs the question, has anyone ever been on a shorter flight due to diversion? Other inbound diversions this afternoon have landed in MCO and MLB.
It's a madhouse in the FLL Skyclub.

MIA-FLL used to be a regularly scheduled flight for some airline. Cannot remember who it was.
Of course, for only $644, Expedia will provide the transport with only two changes of aircraft (in ATL and SEA).

Back in the 1970's and 1980's both Delta and Eastern had flights between FLL and MIA usually for market consolidation or aircraft positioning. Even had L1011's on this route. I was living down there then and one time flew FLL-MIA on EA to get my connection to NAS. I guess I could have just drove to the MIA airport but it was kind of neet to fly this route. The airports are so close landing at FLL from the west you can see aircraft landing and taking off at MIA.

Flew from LGA to JFK due to equipment failure warning light right after take off on AA in mid-2000s. Of course a fully fueled plan is too heavy to land back on LGA's short runways.
Best part was after we landed, FA gave the usual spiel, with a twist:
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to New York's John F Kennedy Airport, where the local time is _____. We thank you for flying American Airlines, and for future reference, I'd like to remind you that the quickest way to get from La Guardia to JFK is via a yellow taxi cab".

I would rather go MIA-FLL than FLL-MIA. I despise MIA so much....
Traveling down there at least 2 weeks per month, I actually choose PBI over MIA when FLL is too expensive!

Flew MDW-ORD
Perhaps 6-8 years ago I was on a flight to ORD that had two aborted landings, so we landed at MDW, refueled, then flew to ORD.
Somewhere there's a thread in this forum on this topic.

A couple of weeks ago I was on Southwest MCI-HOU. We struck a bird on takeoff and immediately circled around and landed back at MCI. MCI-MCI is pretty short! Didn't get credit for the leg though.

In 1963 I had a Mackey Airlines DC-6 from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, all to myself! Plane went onward from Miami to the Bahamas no doubt with more than just myself.
Fare paid ? $2.50!

I've seen DCA bound flights divert to IAD, which isn't too far away.
Going way back, Ozark used to fly STL-Sarasota-RSW. Sarasota to Ft Myers is a bit farther, but still close.

I've flown scheduled service SFO-OAK on TWA, sometimes on their L-1011. It was scheduled for ten minutes and almost seemed to skim the waves in the bay. Fortunately they missed the bridges.
