Upgrades

Fly religiously on DL, but usually alone.

In two weeks, will be flying with my parents. It is a rare route (LGA-SRQ) so I imagine that as Gold, I will be upgraded. What is the likelihood of mom and dad being upgraded as well?

Do I need to ticket all three reservations together, or just tell DL they are traveling with me, etc? Also note, neither of them has status with DL.

You can only upgrade 1 companian and they must be on your record locator.

Moreover, you cannot just assume you will be upgraded because it is a rare route - good luck though

Which brings up the question...if there are more than two people on a PNR, can anyone be upgraded? Or does the Medallion member need to designate one person as the upgradeable companion? Or what?

OP I suggest that you do what is necessary to maximize the chance of being upgraded with a companion. If it happens, give both upgrades to your parents and stay in back.

+1. Respect the elders

And if you are talking about the 10:50 nonstop I would say chances are good as a cursory look on EF for next 7 days shows 6+ seats open almost every day. However in a couple of weeks you will be getting the Spring Break travellers as well (the 3/22 flight already has only 3 seats left).

Thanks everyone. I agree DLFan and BusTrav. Would def give up my first class (if I get bumped).

Understood that the companion must be on my record locator. I've been Gold since 2010, but am not familiar with this phrase. Does that mean, companion must be on my same confirmation number?

BTW BusTrav - I WAS looking at exactly that 10:50 nonstop. Good eye!

You do not need to be on the same reservation number/locator, but you do need to call Delta
and cross reference the companion reservation with your reservation. That will mean that you will
have to split your parents reservations from each other and you will end up with three reservation/locator
numbers

Not necessarily. You can book yourself and one parent on a single reservation and the other parent on their own reservation. The upgrades should be requested automatically when booking (make sure to check the 'request upgrade' box) so you won't have to call in to DL. The companion must be a SkyMiles member, so make sure your parents are signed up with a DL SkyMiles account and enter their info in at booking.

You are correct, of course. I missed that he had not made the reservations already. Of course, being on the same reservation as the companion, pulls down his chance at the upgrade for himself.
