2013 Compensation Thread
Happy New Year, everyone!
Well, as we're now on the second day of the New Year, we know compensation for various items will occur.
In keeping with the 2012 iteration - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...on-thread.html - I figured I'd start the 2013 edition.

Both 12/17 and 1/7 CSG-ATL was delayed due to MX, they put us on a bus instead of flying. Ended up 3 hours late on 12/17 and 5 hours late on 1/7, missing work both times.
Got a $200 voucher upon complaint about both events. Others on the bus got 10,000 miles for one event or 20,000 miles for both. Of course got the Original Routing Credit as well.
(The second time I was rebooked into J for ATL-DTW which made the delay worth it!)

Delta: BON-ATL-GSP on 12/29
Me and my family (4 in all) got stranded in ATL on our way back from a vacation in Bonaire. The ATL-GSP flight cancellation was announced at about 10:00pm on 12/29. Delta put 2 of us in 1 hotel and the others 2 in different hotels (idiots) then gave us meal vouchers for dinner and breakfast. We ended up getting home at about 2:00pm on 12/30.
Compensation came in the form of an offer for 4 Macy's gift cards ($150 each) after I called customer care. I didnt think the deal was too great, but the wife and kids were happy, so I accepted it.
Did I give in too early? Could I have negotiated a better deal?

Last night, sat for 5 hours on the tarmac at YYZ in a CRJ-200 due to ATC issues. Finally took off, missed both my possible connections in DTW, and spent the night there.
Right now, all I've gotten was a $25 meal voucher, night in the hotel in DTW, and rebooked on a flight today.
It wasn't technically Delta's fault but making us sit there rather than deplaning seems to me to be a bit excessive.
Should I ask for more? Complain through the delta.com website? Would it be unreasonable to complain?

If you were really on the plane on the tarmac for 5 hours isn't Delta (or whatever regional carrier is operating this flight) looking at a giant DOT fine? Or does this not count since it was in YYZ (even though it's a US flagged carrier on a trip to the US)?

Assuming flight aware is correct, and it was the Thursday evening flight, they left 3h9m late and arrived 3h12m past scheduled arrival.

This says we left at 8:03, but the guy's watch next to me said 8:30 when we actually left the ground.
We didn't get off the plane until close to 9PM.
Even if you believe the flightaware rather than my story, we boarded the plane at 3:15-3:20 and were on the tarmac until 8:03. That's under 5 hours, but barely.
They did decide at the 3.5 hour mark to deplane us, but as soon as our feet hit the ground (down the plane stairs and were heading to some temporary lounge where we didn't have to clear Canadian and re-clear US customs), we were cleared and returned to the plane.
So, you can take 15 min off for that, too.
It was an ATC issue - computer system for flight plans was down.

I did fill out the "complaint" email form on delta.com about the sitting on the tarmac issue mentioned in a previous post.
So, total compensation: 15K SkyMiles, night in a hotel, $25 voucher (latter two based on PM status for ATC/Weather delay situations).
