Question: Baggage Fee
Hello all,
I have a reward trip scheduled in a month.
I am regular Delta Skymiles member and by the rules I believe I have to pay baggage fee of 25 each way.
But I used to have the Gold AMEX Card, which I canceled 2 year ago.
I still keep the card (shows expiration 06/13), Just called Delta and they said that it shows at their system that I am a member with Gold card and they will waive the fee if I show the card when checking-in.
What do you think about this situation, would it go smoothly?
Do they need to swipe the card or just to see it? (Asking because I actually scratched the magnetic field of the card after I cancelled it)

So....you are trying to get a benefit for which you do not qualify? Hmmm...hope it doesn't work. Pay your $25. If you can't afford it, you probably shouldn't fly. If you can't be honest, you probably shouldn't fly.

If you're flying international, you get one bag for free.
If flying domestic, you can pay for FC or renew your DL AmEx account.
Delta has too much domestic baggage anyway, and should be requiring zones 2-4 to check bags or not carry on to ensure on time departures.
OP, I do hope you are able to find an affordable solution to get your bags to your destination, but I think Delta is generally too accommodating in the baggage department to ensure on-time departures.

I find it a bit ironic that on a board known for teaching people to game the system and qualify for or receive benefits that they should not otherwise receive, that anyone would be so blatant as to attack the OP for asking a question about getting a free bag for a card that shows active in the DL system. By the letter of the law, does the OP qualify for the free bag with a cancelled AmEx? No! However, if the AmEx system and the DL system don't communicate better than that and his card shows active in the DL system, when he goes to check in online, it should allow him to select a checked bag at no charge. The OP never said he couldn't afford the $25 fee, he simply asked a question and, in the far-too-often FT way, got flamed for it!
Good luck OP!

Where on the DL board does this occur regularly? (I only read the DL board.) In most threads I see that people trying to get benefits they aren't entitled to or do things like hidden city ticketing are told the truth of the matter. I rarely see people on the DL board encourage dishonesty or theft of services.
In this case, if the OP's card shows active in the DL system, it's a moot point because when he goes to check in online, the system isn't going to charge him anyway. I didn't say, I agreed with the OP, only that he has identified a loop hole in the system that links DL and AmEx that apparently a cancelled card continues to show active in the DL system. His post is just asking "what do you think about this situation?" and yet he's getting flamed for it!

CC Fraud. OP's question isn't whether his card is active. He knows that it's not. His question is whether DL shows that it's "active." It's one thing to show people how they can get benefits they deserve. It's another to ask how to fraudulently assert that you have a card which you know you don't.

JSmith, like it or not, people who are entitled to guest someone into the SC can guest in anyone they like. So long as the pax are following the T&Cs there is nothing wrong with it, and it's certainly not theft. If DL didn't want people doing this they could end it instantly by requiring guests to be on the same PNR or at least have the same itinerary (business associates may have separate tickets).
Explain how people are gaming the system by booking award tix?
