Good question but at least in my case, I do book most of my flts with the DL AmEx card so that isn't it. So far the only common denominator is recently booked DL travel just before this offer arrived. Sure hope DL will be at least decent enough to add a tube of Vaseline to my BE kit. 
but -- for me at least -- getting miles that are hard to use is not an incentive to fly Delta or to be influenced to buy tickets.
