Does International Baggage Allowance Still Apply After Stopover?

It's not a big deal – but I'm a little confused about Delta's checked baggage policy in the following scenario:

SYD->STL, (few days stopover) then STL->MDT, (few weeks) then MDT->SYD.

I suppose I will not be entitled to my international 50LB checked bag on the STL->MDT leg because it will be considered separate? I emailed Delta but they just gave me the generic checked baggage links.

Also, it seems Delta have changed their AU<->US policy of 2 checked bags at 50LB a piece – appears to be now 1 checked bag at 50LB a piece for anyone not a Silver Medallion member or above.. (economy).

EDIT: Actually, speaking of Silver Medallion status - my wife is a Silver Medallion, since we are flying together, can we go to the priority check-in desk in Sydney even though I am "General" scum?

It makes me sad that I am Bronze, we only just switched from Qantas to Delta and average 20K miles each per trip which we take once or twice a year.
I assume you are referring to Quantas Silver status and Quantas Bronze status and not Delta Silver and Delta Bronze (which doesn't exist.) or VA Velocity Bronze (which also doesn't exist)
Are you booking your flight under Quantas Flight Numbers or Virgin Australia or Delta?

Sorry, perhaps I used the wrong word. I meant to say that I am a SkyMiles member though I am just "general", ie. not even Silver Medallion whereas my wife is.

The baggage situation above is on flights booked direct with Delta.

According to this page: (unless I'm not reading it right)

https://www.delta.com/traveling_chec...cked/index.jsp

I can't find it at the moment, but, there used to be a clause that, if your stopover from int'l to domestic was less than 24 hours, you were allowed the int'l luggage allowance for your continuing flight(s) - - in which case you would have to pay.

Oops! See post #6/7.

You should be allowed to take 2 bags free to and from SYD. Here's a quote:

For all other international flights - - You may check up to two bags that meet our size & weight restrictions at no extra charge when traveling within regions not listed above.

Where are you seeing that it has changed to 1 free bag?

As I read a little more - - under Silver Medallion allowance, it says:

All Other International Flights - - One additional free bag over standard allowance

So, to me, it reads 2 bags for you, and 3 for your wife. Any other thoughts?
I think if you look closer...you'll see N. America to Australia is 1 free bag...and then both will get an extra free bag due to FO status. Total of 2 each. Also, if all travel (International and domestic is on one ticket) any stopover(s) will, now, use the international allowance.

Do you have a source for this?

Oops! You're right! (I'll fix my post) I scrolled thru that chart a hundred times - - Not sure how I missed it! So, the non Medallion gets an additional bag with the Silver Medallion?

Also, where is the stopover info? I even had a problem once in ATL with a LESS than 24 hour (int'l) stopover!

You'll find it mid-way down.....has to all be on one ticket. Separate ticket = charge.

Direct link - hmm, interesting. All of my flights are on one itinerary, so I guess I am traveling on my international allowance despite having 3 days in between getting to STL and leaving again.

I would suggest checking in with an agent. They will waive the bag fees that either online or kiosk will try and charge.

I would print out that page from DL.com - - Like I said above, I had trouble with, even a brief stopover in ATL on my way home from MEX last year. The computer, apparently, was only recognizing the flights I was checking in for that particular day, and not the day before. Hopefully, it's fixed now.
