You should be allowed to take 2 bags free to and from SYD. Here's a quote:

For all other international flights - - You may check up to two bags that meet our size & weight restrictions at no extra charge when traveling within regions not listed above.

I can't find it at the moment, but, there used to be a clause that, if your stopover from int'l to domestic was less than 24 hours, you were allowed the int'l luggage allowance for your continuing flight(s) - - in which case you would have to pay.

Where are you seeing that it has changed to 1 free bag?

As I read a little more - - under Silver Medallion allowance, it says:

All Other International Flights - - One additional free bag over standard allowance

So, to me, it reads 2 bags for you, and 3 for your wife. Any other thoughts?
