Checking Beef, Really!

So we are heading out to Hawaii for two weeks in January. There are 3 of us, I can check 6 bags (SM). Since we have rented a beach house, I don't see packing tons of clothes. We bought half a cow earlier in the year, and I thought "Can I check a box of froxen meat?". I get 50lbs per bag right? Is this crazy? Food is so expensive in Hawaii, I just thought of saving some $$$.

I can envision you opening the cooler at your destination and finding one of those weight and balance sand bags... and someone else along the way having feast.

Suggest you don't try hiding your 9mm in with the T-bones, however.

Nope this is not a joke. I was just curious if anyone has done it before. I know there are restrictions on dry ice.

Too bad WN doesn't fly to Hawaii -- the cattle call would be appropriate. Cows fly free!

Assuming this isn't joke...

Had a friend who traveled to go deer hunting. Put several packages or frozen venison in his luggage. Long story short...luggage lost...located 3 days later...venison...clothes...suitcase...spoiled. Badly.

I thought about the lost luggage thing. I have checked boxes of food tons of times, just never frozen meat. But I hear about people checking fish when they go fishing in Alaska.

You can bring it on board, or you can check it as long as you complete a release

From Delta:

Delta allows perishable items (both edible and non-edible) onboard as part of your carry-on baggage allowance as long as there is no violation of agricultural restrictions for the destination country.

Perishable items include:
Fresh or frozen foods, fruits, and vegetables
Meats, fish, poultry, or bakery products
Flowers of varying sorts including cut flowers, floral displays, and vegetable plants
If the item does not fit within our size or weight restrictions for carry-on baggage, we will accept the item within your checked baggage allowance once a limited liability release form has been completed. Delta will not accept liability of any perishable item that spoils or goes bad during its journey in cargo.

You might want to make sure you can bring beef into Hawaii. I know they have some restrictions on carrying certain foods in/out.
