An earlier post says Delta would not be responible for spoiled food. If Delta lost the bag completely would they be responsible for the value of the food. Knowing the answer ahead of time one could claim lost value in "household items" or some thing similiar so DL would still pay the claim.

We bought half a cow earlier this year. It is REALLY delicious, frankly better than anything I have bought in the grocery store. There is going to be 8 of us for 2 weeks, so I thought some of my steaks, roasts, maybe 30-40 lbs. Yes I know I can buy it at costco and the like, but for 40 pounds of steak for say $10 a pound that is $400, where my freezer is free.

Bevo doesn't fly. He's carried in his special wagon hauled by a truck. They leave days before the game so as to arrive at the destination on time for the game. That's how they brought him out to LA 3 weeks ago for the Texas/UCLA football game at the Rose Bowl.

I've done frozen beef before, I usually put dry ice in till I get to the airport. Then I dump the dry ice (washroom fog =P) and check in the bags.
I try to time it so that I am at the airport checking in 70-90 mins before the flight to prevent minimal thawing.
While coolers are a nice idea, they insulate in other words your meat does not have the chiller/freezer effect that comes from being 40,000 ft high.
I normally just pack it into a normal fabric bag.
Never really had any smell issue.

Is it just me, or are the potential pitfalls and problems not worth this effort?
Advantage:
1. Free meat. Actually, not free- it was previously paid for.
Potential problems:
1. Losing not-so-free meat.
2. Spoiling not-so-free meat.
3. Losing luggage and n-s-f meat to TSA concerns about n-s-f meat.
4. Riding in car w/ afore mentioned spoiled n-s-f meat
5. Lugging n-s-f- meat around while being able to pack carry-on.
6. Waiting for n-s-f meat at baggage carousel. See #5
7. Potential meat import restrictions
8. a bunch of other reasons I couldn't think of at the moment.
Advantage:
No meat, n-s-f or otherwise.!

So we are heading out to Hawaii for two weeks in January. There are 3 of us, I can check 6 bags (SM). Since we have rented a beach house, I don't see packing tons of clothes. We bought half a cow earlier in the year, and I thought "Can I check a box of froxen meat?". I get 50lbs per bag right? Is this crazy? Food is so expensive in Hawaii, I just thought of saving some $$$.
Even better, upgrade to first class and send 3 packages of up to 70 pounds per person. If you are going to the Big Island, send me a PM.

Or you could make it into travel clothes/boots and 'wear'-on. No lost luggage, no spoiled meat.

Oh no; DL has introduced another medallion level? Do you need to be Beef Medallion to get the upgraded F meal?
