Do we really want to be doing this, discussing this, NOW just as DL has thrown one of the biggest (yet...) devaluations to the SlyMiles program?

That is just what DL wants to see: suckers ready to fly DL and pay big $$ no matter how poorly they are treated and no matter how frequently they are lied to.

I think that the whole existence of this thread, at this very, time lessens the chance of DL backing out of its major SM devaluation, due to be launched by August 15th.

IMHO this extremely poorly timed thread seriously compromises the vast majority of DL FFs interests.

I'm also interested. Personal annual spend $5-10K.

bennos Aug 10, 2011 6:38 pm

For everyone who uses some form of phrase expressing interest, I'll be PM'ing you sometime in the next few days for more info.

I'm in too. I earn Diamond status solely based on personal travel each year. I don't travel for business at all.

steex Aug 10, 2011 7:36 pm

I'm definitely interested, though my future spend may be on the low end of the spectrum that would be necessary.

skyvanman Aug 10, 2011 7:42 pm

Doubt it'll work but I'm in for about 8k of personal travel a year (minimum), assuming Delta reinstates sub-72 hour mileage award re-ticketing, if not I'll have jumped ship to United by the time anything comes to fruition.

I have three people in my family who maintain Medallion status solely on personal travel, two of us at the Platinum level, and I'm the lowest spender.

Somebody organizing this ought to talk with DL first. I would hazard that the answer is a flat out "no" and it's not worth anybody's time if that's the answer.

akonradi Aug 10, 2011 8:33 pm

I'd be interested in this if it actually started, though I have my doubts that this will be taken seriously by Delta. Anyway, my out-of-pocket 2010 spend on DL/AF/KL/AZ was about 14K.

FWIW, flying Delta doesn't necessarily mean that you have to credit to SkyMiles. Unless this rule reverses, I'll drop to Silver and keep top-tier status in two partner programs. Free redeposits on AS and promo awards with Flying Blue make redemption much easier. One-way awards are also available at one-way prices.

With upgrades turning sour on DL, this really shouldn't make any noticeable difference in my flying experience, as I often pay for A/P fares. On many other routes, I'd probably be slumming it in coach as a PM, so one may as well get the same Zone 1 and some usable miles. And I can fly AS when available and keep a near-perfect upgrade rate.

Of course, out of IND, I am trapped with Delta due to scheduling. I am not fortunate enough to have AA or UA as viable options.

You're posting in the wrong forum.

DL has no interest in giving discounts to people already flying DL.

You should be posting this in the UA/AA/US/WN/B6 forums. Get a bunch of THOSE travelers together and you have something, maybe.

You're still inferior to a company, though, as a company can enforce loyalty with policy. You have no mechanism to force program participants to keep travel with DL.

Bravo Bennos. If can figure out to make this work you are a cleverer man than I am. But this is not hard :(

I am also interested in this. I spend between $8-15k per year on DL out of pocket. Generally book through delta.com. I have a skybonus account.

javabytes Aug 11, 2011 9:23 am

After Monday's announcement, forget organizing a discount... organize a walkout.

+1

As I've said before, this thread organizer has picked the worst possible time for this. Doing this now (and you can bet that DL is following this thread) will encourage DL to abuse its FFs more and more, seeing that no matter how much abuse it throws down, it has (gullible and apparantly abuse-loving) customers throwing more and more money at it.

IMHO the moderators should delete this thread.

I guess in the same was as inappropriate timing "strenghtens" the OPs post.
