Delta carry-on baggage definition re laptop.

Hey there,

checking http://www.delta.com/traveling_check...ryon/index.jsp I noticed that a laptop computer doesn't seem to be a "personal item" anymore? Does that mean I am only allowed to take EITHER a backpack OR a laptop from now on?

Thanks!

You can take a backpack and laptop - the laptop would be the personal item, and the backpack would be the regular carry-on. I think...

I walk on Delta, American and multiple other airlines with my rolling bag and my laptop bag. Never had a problem with any of them.

They explicitly state:
Approved Personal Carry-on Items
- 1 purse, briefcase, camera bag, or diaper bag;
- or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked and must be carried on);
- or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above.
Hmmm... So this hasn't got to their employees yet?

Backpacks are considered a carry on item. So you can have both a backpack and laptop hence 1 carry on and 1 personal item.

Aaaah now I get it... I totally misunderstood - I was assuming "approved personal carry-on" + "additional approved carry-on"... Thanks

Same here I fly Delta exclusively and never had a problem with carry on and 38L EMS daypack.

Curious is the terms were changed recently. I often travel with a back pack (18" X 14" X 9") and a small carry on (18" X 12" X 7"). Occasionally the airline staff refuse to check (or red tag) the small carry on due to the small size so I carry on both bags as a rule.

And I have often wondered if a roller bag with a laptop is considered a personal item or a carry on item...

What is confusing about the phrasing is who in their right mind brings just a laptop? They are almost always going to be found in the "briefcase, camera bag" or a backpack.

As it was explained to me: The "personal item" must be able to fit under the seat.

Of course, I see normally, people bring suitcases that are 22" plus and over packed, and on top of that, a "laptop bag" with telescoping handles and wheels that is almost the size of a small carry-on (16x14x14"), and technically won't fit in any of the sizers...

Sneaky unannounced change going the way of the CRJ7/9 carry-on limit?
