I get a lot of offers that are cash or miles. They usually value the miles at 1.1-1.2 cents each.

Also note that the ability to upgrade via FCM offers may disappear even if seats are available.

The mileage offers are simply the cash offers at 1.0 CPM (less the 7.5% US Excise tax charged on the cash offer on domestic tickets). The math is exact and does not vary (similar to Pay with Miles). For domestic tickets, just take the cash offer in cents and divide by 1.075 to account for the domestic Excise tax and you will have calculated the mileage offer.

They absolutely do vary. If you see a price you like, just take it. It’s important to note though that if you end up changing your flight, it will not apply to your new flight and is non-refundable.

It’s important to note that this is only if you change the flight. If Delta changes the flight and you lose your upgrade, you will be entitled to a refund.

Booked JFK>HNL in Oct. I have an offer for $965/89k miles for D1 that I'd be happy with (good offer?). Know that if I voluntarily change/cancel I don't get anything back. But if they have an equipment change/involuntary flight change will it still transfer?
Don't think there will be much of a schedule change considering that it's the one daily flight but since its awhile out guess anything could happen.

Haven't done a FCM for awhile but even doing both ways is cheaper (same offer on return) than a straight award book ($6k/300k+). FCM is still cheaper compared to re-faring.

FWIW, D1 Z fares on JFK-HNL start at $3251 roundtrip. It's largely a matter of finding dates with Z bucket availability on flights. If total with buy-up offer is less than that, you can consider yourself doing well. Yes, you can get refunds in the event of invol changes.

Thank you for this! Yeah they were Z fares for my dates as well (same price) but with the offers it does total out less ($2,760).

So for the about $500 difference if I take it both ways, I just lose the flexibility to change/cancel without losing the value (unless an agent is generous to refund the value)

Buy Up On Refundable Ticket

My apologies if this is somewhere on the thread.

I have a main cabin refundable ticket from KOA->HNL->JFK. The first leg is on Hawaiian, the second on Delta. Delta is offering a reasonable buy up on the HNL->JFK leg. If I took the buy up and then canceled the flight would the buy up be refunded? The offer says I get two free bags with the buy up, will there be an issue getting Hawaiian to honor the bags?

The underlying ticket is refundable, but the buy-up offers are technically non-refundable and non-transferable (it is noted in small print when you select a seat for purchase). You would have to plead for mercy to get a refund of the upgrade amount. There seems to have been some success in pleading for mercy, but DL could at some point start being sticklers on enforcement.

~$400 for DCA-JFK-SEA, ~21 days out, long haul on the early evening A339 … the best part of this is that I used the company Visa card to purchase the T ticket thru Concur, and was able to upfare with my personal DL AmEx using “Change Flight” on the iPhone app

don’t count on actually flying on the 339. If they need it internationally for a swap out …….. but good price either way.

HA will not honor the baggage allowance.

You will be charged the HA Y bag tariff unless the HA segment is in F.

Something about JFK-SEA midweek these days...I've been keeping an eye on my RT flight JFK-YVR (via SEA) starting several days away. Yesterday repricing (or whatever the technical term is) got me from C+ to F for ~$150 outbound; just now it got me ~$250 REFUND for F on the inbound leg. Now, from prior experience, they have been giving away the F gate upgrades on the SEA-YVR legs like candy (who's going to pay for F for a one-hour flight, and I'm guessing there aren't a ton of connecting F pax, either), but...still nice. It was a pricey C+ to start with, but given the way prices have gone up, if you'd told me in advance I could get roundtrip F for ~$1600 in the current environment, I'd be pleased.

I’ll play the PM MM DYKWIA card and have them route me via LAX or SFO :p :D

Had the (much photographed already) cheeseburger last weekend. I agree with the other reviews - it was quite tasty bordering on decadent, and could be considered a little greasy by some. The accompanying salad was disappointing.
