I regularly get upgraded on this route as a Silver because, unsurprisingly, no one buys first class on it (and I guess not a ton of people are connecting in F, either). There are still 9 of 12 F unsold on this particular flight. The crews are usually nice people, but...yeah...$46.90 is about my limit, too.

My AZO-DTW and DTW-AZO (113 miles) segments on upcoming trip have been consistently showing at $52.68. As a Plat, I think I'll hold out for comp upgrade.

Guessing shoodawg found the "upgrade to travel in luxury" part of the post hilarious. I may be wrong. But my first thought was "wow-they've got to be kidding". Followed by an eye roll. Followed by a wry chuckle that Delta management not only approved that. But also believes it.

I've been watching various FCM offers for upcoming flights and noticed that they've increased across the board.
|
I thought I had posted this a couple weeks ago, but guess not. I booked JFK-DEN and the delta between main cabin and F at booking was $200. MC was like $199 a week in advance. After booking, the upgrade buy up offer in my account was $140 as a DM. Maybe they would have paid a non-elite to sit in F :D
I wound up burning a RUC, which admittedly was a poor value use, but It was end of Q3 and I still had all 4 unused, so I'd rather use a chit than give BAS/E more money. |

I doubt anyone is actually "approving" FCM offers and they are almost certainly generated algorithmically based on a number of factors (such as fare bucket inventory). They are unlikely to significantly undercut fares when flights are down to J/C bucket availability.

Not sure if there is a D1M version of this thread, but just got offered (and accepted) a $399 upgrade from PS to D1 BOS-AMS. Cabin was very empty a week or so out, not sure if it was an extra flight or what, all the other flights were almost full in J. Was KL coded and on 074 stock so had get international desk to process a reticketing to 006, but it worked in the end. Annoyingly will earn slightly less MQD, but worth it.

Have seen this a few times but baffles me every time I see it. I have a JFK-JAX flight in two weeks from now. Yesterday the FCM buy up from C+ (paid long haul PS ticket) to F was $259 for 5 available seats. Today it's $411 for 6 open seats.

I wonder if the buy-up offers are displayed to every economy class passenger equally, or the algorithms are smart enough to make personalized offers based on that customer history / spending habits, and net profit / loss Delta has on that Skymiles account.
Even if it is not the case now, it is a matter of time until AI will be making individual offers you almost can't refuse. |
