Thanks! It makes a little more sense from PS/PE to J. How much was your PE ticket roundtrip / were you in G class, or a higher class, initially? Did it rebook into Z?

$1374 booked in G, rebooked into Z.

Offered a $44 upgrade to First from C+ one way from LGA->CMH. I know from experience it's a relatively short flight, but I took it anyway.

Today on Renés Points Blog he mentions a flyer getting a $2.07 FCM offer for two flights within an itinerary (ORD-ATL, ATL-CHS). Hard for me not to see this as anything but a glitch.

Yesterday I was looking at tickets for RDU-MDW. They require a stop somewhere so I decided to buy RDU-MSP-MDW for the MQMs. It was only an extra $99 for a D Fare so I jumped on that. Got the last F seats on each flight too.

Being offered $304 to upgrade my JFK/DTW memorial day flight and ALL of the twelve F seats are free. I know a non-status that is on this flight and he's being offered the upgrade for $150. Makes no sense they are charging a diamond that will probably get the free upgrade double since they won't be losing out on possible baggage fees

SEA-ATL-DCA: I purchased the ticket through Concur midafternoon; called a to request a corporate rep to contact DL for the waiver code to reissue the ticket into F, but was told to speak to a daytime supervisor tomorrow

this is going to be interesting: the app has been showing a $219 difference between H and D for the past 24 hours, the first offer in My Trips was for $369, and a few minutes ago it was $1095

UPDATE: $197 -- Concur rep booked the D fare with the corp discount !

I'd bought a FCM upgrade for MSY-ATL for today and ended up having to standby on an earlier flight back in Economy (middle in Economy too, yuck). I still got the bonus MQM miles reflecting my original upgrade which was nice at least.

lucky you ... I'm still wrestling with 'em over last month's JFK-DCA fiasco

Word of warning -- and I think this has been brought up before.

Flying JFK-FRA and took the leap for FCM to D1 for 79,900 miles (there was a $799 option as well).

Fast forward -- Mom has surgery and can't travel. DM line tells me the upgrade is non-refundable. I point out that DL's service fee language says:
"Award Tickets and mileage upgrades must be canceled at least 72 hours prior to originating flight departure time to redeposit the miles."
They try to explain that this is not a mileage upgrade even though I used miles to upgrade. (Oxymoron)

Ultimately they make an exception because Mom can't travel because of the surgery.

But -- be warned again -- these FCM upgrades are considered non-refundable regardless of whether they are paid in miles or dollars.

I asked the PM line about this a couple weeks ago; the agent said using miles is considered a “seat upgrade” (i.e., non-refundable, since the ticket wouldn’t actually get reissued) ... paying $$ for the upgrade generates a new ticket in the higher fare class, and the entire value retains the non-refundable basis of the original ticket

If you had paid cash, you would have been out that as well. The T&C's are pretty clear here. If you take the FCM offer, whether with cash or miles, and cancel, you will not receive any credit for the purchase. The miles option is just an alternative to paying with cash with DL valuing your miles at 1 CPM (minus 7.5% US excise tax on domestic flights). It really has nothing to do with actual award tickets.

I'm envious of all of you who have gotten FCM deals. I've only ever seen the price difference between the posted fares (ie: if Main is $250 and First is $500, the "FCM" deal has always been $250).

Granted, flying out of ALB isn't exactly the hotbed of travel.

LOL!

I've never seen a post-purchase FCM offer that is exactly the fare difference. The pre-purchase "offers" are just buying up to F at the going fares and thus are always simply the fare difference. Certainly there have been a number cases where it was within a few 10's of dollars, but never the exact difference. Care to post an example?

SDQ-JFK

Economy to F: $116
Economy to C+: $152

Passenger has no status and is inclined to buy the F seat. I'm encouraging her just to have a different experience for substantially lower price than it usually costs.

The severity of this policy is extremely customer unfriendly and out of line with DL's other policies. In truth I've been able to have it waived due a medical reason and received a cash refund on FCM. That being said, when they've collected hundreds of dollars for a seat upgrade I think it's pretty crappy of them to not at least issue that back as a credit to the customer (at least the amount of the ticket value + upgrade charge, after a change fee has been paid).
