Does This Constitute a Round Trip?
Folks,
Ok, so this is related to the targeted Platinum status promo. Please don't hate me for this...
Due to make Platinum with my pace of travel by the end of summer, but as it turns out I'll be one trip short of making it by the end of June (before my next trans-con where having Plat is a definite advantage.)
To fill the gap, I went ahead and booked a mile-hop from JFK to BOS on 6/18, as it was cheap enough (and cheaper than other options I could find at that airport.) I'm flying out on the 4:29PM and returning on the 7:45PM, thus minimizing my time at Logan.
Clearly I would imagine this would constitute as a there-and-back round trip. However, Delta.com is showing my itinerary as one trip with two legs and a 1h and 13m layover at Logan. The trip header even says New York (JFK) ->to-> New York (JFK.)
Will Delta see this as the round trip as it is, or as a one-way flight from-and-to the same place with a layover somewhere else? The point of course is to have this trip bring me to PM status with the recent promotion (three round trips before the end of the year.) Does anyone know if this won't do the trick?
Thanks!

Did you read the fine print in the promotion? DL is usually really good in spelling out details in the fine print. That would be the first place to start.

Just as I thought, the fine print answers your question (funny how that works!).
It has NOTHING to do with round trips or not - they just used that as an example. The fine print says:
"Purchase and fly at least six (6) Delta or Delta Connection marketed and operated flight segments between April 1 and June 30, 2011, and earn Silver Medallion status through February 29, 2012. Purchase and fly at least 12 Delta or Delta Connection marketed and operated qualifying flight segments between April 1 and June 30, 2011, and earn Gold Medallion status through February 29, 2012. Codeshare flights operated by carriers other than the Delta Connection carriers are excluded from this offer."
So you need 6 SEGMENTS, not three round trips. A segment is a distinct flight number. So, as said above, if you are booked on the same flight number in both directions, it is one segment (argue all you want, but you will probably lose).
Where do you see the offer that says you need three round trips by the end of the year? The offer mentioned above says you need 6 segments by JUNE 30, 2011 (which is the equivalent on 3 round trips, but you don't need all round trips to qualify). Maybe you are talking about a different offer. It is always good to post links to the offers you are referring to.

This is not true. I just did the same thing but it was ATL-CLT with a 40-minute turn-around (needed two segments for the same promotion). It showed up as one-way with same flight number on my itineraries. But afterwards I received two segments and it showed as a typical round trip in my account. So don't worry, you'll be fine.

I don't see why it wouldn't qualify. The website is stupid. Any human would understand that a one-way would leave you in BOS, and that if you leave from JFK, go to BOS, and return to JFK you've done a round trip. Contacting DL - or if all else fails, Kevin Pinto - is how issues that computers are too dumb to understand get worked out.

Thanks to everyone who's been in a similar spot and graciously provided an answer.
Different flight numbers... Even a different aircraft each way. (CR7 out, CR9 back.) Looks like I'll be in good shape.

I booked a round trip from LGA -> CLT for 5/29 as a cheap round trip for 4 segments. ( to qualify for the double miles 6 segment promo)
LGA-ATL-CLT
CLT-ATL-LGA
quck turn in CLT
Was amused when I checked my Reservation and it showed LGA->LGA

In addition to two segments on the same PNR, I've always gotten credit when there are two segments on different PNRs that get me there and back.
For example, one PNR shows ATL-RDU, the other is RDU-ATL-SRQ, I have always gotten credit when the promo requires a r/t.
Since I almost always purchase o/w tickets, because my schedule changes frequently at the last minute and I usually fly from Point A to Point B to Point C to Point D then back to Point A with a middle segment requiring a different carrier, this happens pretty frequently.
