Huh?

F was nearly empty, so no harm done... I'm sure if I was a general member flying in coach, and saw the empty F cabin, I would certainly ask to sit up there...

Last year, on a MSP-ATL flight, there were only 30 pax onboard, and only myself and 2 others in F... GA just bumped everyone she could to F. People were pretty excited to sit up front for free!

Paging all the FO's who were angry that can't even get upgraded themselves on award tickets to this thread. Also paging all the higher tier Medallions who told them to earn it.

I dearly wish that someone from DL Revenue Mgmt could read this. The resulting cardiac response would be most interesting.

Now I can see every FO on award ticket going to the get to demand their upgrade!

After all, in a non-medallion companion on an award can be upgraded, certainly FO's are entitled to their upgrades on an award ticket.

As a general rule, I find both travel and FlyerTalk more enjoyable when I stridently maintain that the rules should apply strictly to everyone with only one exception.

Can you guess who that exception is?

The same exception that everyone else on FT wants made.

I'm not sure what that means? There are lots of people here who genuinely feel that you should not get FC unless you pay...period. Same goes for Business Elite.

I, a DELTA AMERICAN EXPRESS PLATINUM MEDALLION MEMBER, was travelling LGA-CMH on a T-fare ticket. Clearly I am a HIGH VALUED CUSTOMER and I was upgraded to first class. My non-statused companion, flying on a LOW LEVEL AWARD TICKET was NOT UPGRADES!

Shock, horror!

I, filled with righteous indignation, waddled on up to the podium at LGA Delta terminal D, and demanded a companion upgrade! To which the GA, after consulting the computer, spit out an upgraded BP for my companion! We were the only two folks in F!

Shenanigans!

On the way back, the CMH GA steadfastly refused to issue an upgrade to my companion, citing "The Rules". However, on board, I explained the situation to the FA, who GRANTED A BATTLEFIELD IN PLANE UPGRADE to my non-status'd companion! There were only 3 other folks in the F cabin that night!

Shenanigans!

...

It was a light flight, no Medallions were harmed, and my companion got to sit next to me. I'd never have asked if I didn't check the loads first (which showed wide-open F). Kudos to the GA and FA for the treat.
If you had asked me...
I would have told you that you were welcome to sit with your companion in Y...
Shame on the FA for UG'ing your companion...
FAs are NOT allowed to do that..

The bigger issues, as I see it, are:

1) why would anyone use miles for such a short hop (LGA-CMH)?, and
2) how many quadrillion miles did it cost?

The flight was $450+, but I snagged it for 25K miles

Considering a relatively short-notice r/t LGA-CMH tix might cost $750+ and the same itinerary might be had for 25k miles, there are lots of people who might use miles, especially if they pay for their own travel.
