delta and kayak

Did a search, but can't seem to find an answer.

Going to dtw to sju.

Priced fare on delta.com and kayak. Fare is 100 cheaper on kayak. Once priced on kayak. it sends me back to delta.com for the purchase.

Will I get miles if kayak sends me to delta.com vs. going directly to delta.com which I can't do at the moment.

I don't see why it wouldn't. Kayak is only searching; they're not booking anything for you. You are purchasing directly from DL on DL's own site. Out of curiosity, what dates?

Yeah, you'll get miles, but there is a good chance once you get to Delta.com from Kayak, you'll be quoted the higher price.

I booked a DL ticket via Kayak last week that was $20 cheaper on Kayak. It booked and ticketed at the lower price! About an hour later, somehow DL.com magically lowered the price! Also, I'm not sure, but I think the "Risk Free Guarantee" allows you to cancel a ticket before midnight the next day, if it's booked on DL.com, and not on other travel sites. I had to cancel the next afternoon, and I had absolutely NO PROBLEM!! Canceled via the Medallion Line.

I've had this happen several times. Would like to know why as well.

I see this pretty often, but mostly when i'm searching doing multi-city searches. Often times delta.com has some crazy high price, but somehow kayak pulls the same routing and kicks me back to delta.com and show's a much cheaper price.....

2 out of 3 times I got the lower price, once it did boot it up to the same price as DL.COM

I use KAYAK all the time. Find that it gives me more flexibility as to optional flights. The particular flight that I prefer may not show up on the Delta website. Also the lower price is not on the Delta website UNLESS I go directly from Kayak to Delta. Viola - the price and flights I saw on Kayak are now available.

Yes, always get mileage. And, as a Diamond, "usually" get my upgrades.

I realize that this is sort of nit-picking, but it has actually not been my experience that the price is unavailable on Delta.com unless you go via kayak.

I think it's a matter of the DL search engine being crap.
If you find a fare on Kayak, then log out and log into Delta.com and use multi-city search to pick the exact same flights on all segments you'll find the same fare.

It's just that DL won't find it for you - functionally the same, I suppose, but worth noting.

On the other - more annoying - hand, I have frequently found flights for sale in lower fare buckets on Expedia or Orbitz than directly on DL. (Not sure if this is still going on. There was some discussion of it on the board earlier this year, IIRC.)

It wasn't uncommon to buy tix from one of the online TAs instead of DL for $100+ price difference. (And yes, always normal fare rules tickets and always fully credited.)

You will. I do it all the time. Delta.com tends to give one flight choices that DL wants me to take; that is fine much of the time, but Kayak has the magic to find more choices cheaper ones. Only last month I found a trip, U.S. to SIN and back via KUL, for $1,500 less than going directly to delta.com. When Kayak sends you to delta.com you actually book on delta.com. Just add your SkyMiles number.

I find, often, delta.com will not even display flights that are available unless you search by schedule or multi-city. It is as if they do not exist. KAYAK is another way around that issue.

Recently, I was searching for a morning departure, but no mornings poped up even when I klicked "morning" on the search engine. All I got was late afternoon flights. Searched by schedule and the morning flights came up. checked KAYAK and the morning flights came up, pointing to delta.com.

It appears Delta still has a long way to go getting the search engine up to snuff. Or, maybe, it is up to snuff and they do this to direct you to flights they want to push. Who knows?

I usually book directly on Delta after search on ITA or Kayak, but all the time I have to use "Try searching by schedule" to find the flights I want.
Somehow delta.com doesn't show all available flights if you are searching by price.

Resurrected thread. But I've encountered an issue since the recent revamp of Dl.dumb. In the past, using ITA or Kayak, I could find creative routes, pairings, lower fare buckets, etc. I'd always been able to reproduce on DL.dumb by using multi-city and building my flights by schedule.

Now this is not working. I'm only able to capture the fare when going through Kayak to Delta.dumb. Not an issue as I can just input my SkyMiles number from there--HOWEVER, if I want to do Pay with Miles, when I go through Kayak, that option doesn't appear in the purchase phase.

As an example, I looked at a trip for 10/6/14 on Kayak.
Cle-atl-sfo-MSP. Dl 963/1680/2105. Bookable.

Can't even construct it on Dl.dumb. Gives error message.

Anyone else experience this?

Have you tried calling DL and telling the agent the exact flights and fare you want?

No, I did not, as I was mostly noodling with different routes and fares. As I stated, it was bookable through Kayak; but if I wanted to use pay with miles, that avenue was not going to be available. I encountered this issue (bookable through Kayak, but not able to reproduce using multi-city on DL.dumb) on several different itineraries.

I was curious is anyone else had noticed this issue. If I had to, I would call. Apparently, one more step DL wants me to take in their effort to provide a seamless customer-friendly experience.
