Shenanigans?
Currently on DL1547 (4/25/10)...Seat 1A had three different people sitting in it prior to departure. The second person was asked to move back to coach. The third person appears to be an upgrade.

How is this a shenanigan? These threads with no solid information and pure speculation are getting tiring.
What if the first two people were non-revs and they were sent to the back for an upgraded medallion..how would that be a shenanigan?

Agree, in the end, it might not be a shenanigan. However, I am curious to know as to why three different people were in the seat. Why jump all over me for that?

Whomever is sitting in 1A wasnt upgraded at the gate.
The reason you got jumped on is that posting something like "S" as the thread title is just asking for people to flame and we have made a ton of progress in the past couple of weeks WRT the flaming happeing on these forums.

Because you gave specific flight info for the DL-insiders to help determine what happened. Since nothing was mentioned by one of the vocal DL insiders (see another similar thread here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...over-plat.html) as to "why" it happened, my guess is that maybe there was S....
I've sat in someone's seat while boarding to talk to a traveling associate and then moved when the pax came along. It could be something as simple and innocent as that.

Seriously? Your post is only 55 minutes after the OP. Give people a chance to look into it before adding fuel to the fire.

They certainly could have given more info if they wanted to document their case.

BTW your post about people not jumping in at 55 min after the thread started appears that you want us to not chime in so you can cry and whine to DL.

To what extent would always requiring a new BP with the new Y assignment cut down on GA Shenanigans?

How can you say that for sure? My son, after being upgraded, was then asked to move back to coach and was not given a new BP. I've seen this at least 2 other times in the past several months (someone with an upgraded FC BP told they'd need to sit in Y). I assume DL's systems will still show these people in FC even though they ended up sitting in Y at GA instructions.

Did these downgrades happen by any chance in ATL? I'm betting not MSP, DTW or MEM. In an entire adult life spent flying NW I never saw a single "downgrade" at the gate and this was with more than a decade as a gold or plat on NW...

The DL employees who are being encouraged to deny every shenanigan, and come up with vague assurances that they didn't happen?
So is it an organized campaign?
Do you get a demerit every time we say SHENANIGAN???

Nobody is crying and whining but you. The OP asked a legitimate question, and got jumped on by a DL employee....
Shocking!

I know that based on all I have read on FT, I will *never* be downgraded without a new BP. Either give me a new boarding pass or take me off the plane. Only two options unless I am absolutely on a tight schedule where I need to be on that flight in order to get somewhere urgent (very rare)

Not that this will answer the specific question of what happened on that specific flight, but...
One time I was flying IAD-ATL, getting to the gate just as the incoming flight was deplaning. My sister, of all people, was getting off the incoming flight. (I was in DC, but had not called her. Turns out, she was in ATL and had not called me.) We sat down at Ben and Jerry's and started to chat. Next thing I knew, she told me she just heard the final boarding call for my flight, so I got on the plane.
I get to my seat, 2C, and my friend Jerry was sitting there. We looked at each other, as neither of us expected to see the other, and he said, "What are you doing on this plane?" I countered with, "What are you doing in my seat?" He pointed to the guy in 2D and said that guy was in his seat, so he just assumed that the guy was confused and took the aisle seat. His wife and child, he pointed out, were in 2A and 2B. (I had not noticed J*** or M*** across the aisle.) The guy in 2D said, "Well, it was worth a try. At least I got a free drink." With that, he took his cup, got out of the F seat and went back to coach.
Jerry said he wasn't sure which he was more upset about - that the guy had the nerve to try to scam a seat in F or that he (Jerry) had never thought of doing that before!
So maybe the first guy in 1A was someone who was taking a chance and, at a minimum, got a free drink before the plane took off.
