Anderson Dumping DAL?

The CEO sold 67,078 shares of DAL @ $12.55 (total $848536.70) on 19 Feb.

Also, Bastian sold 20,000 shares @ $12.24 (total 244800.00) on 9 Feb.

The two top guys have disposed of $1.1M in DAL in the last two weeks. Is this an omen or routine?

No one on this Board will ever know. Every post after this is pure speculation, unless they are your personal friends and have told you why they sold and authorized you to post the reason here. But speculate away. Maybe they needed the cash? Who knows. No one else here knows more than you or I for that matter.

Hold DL stock or US Dollars? Both risky.

Does anyone know how many shares he has? I would think if a big negative report was coming out and he sold shares there would be issues.

Million dollar sales don't portend confidence in the stock value.

Also:
Executive VP Hauenstein sold 30,150 shares on 16 Feb.
CFO Halter sold 32,760 shares on 9 Feb.
Executive VP Campbell sold 30,151 shares on 9 Feb.
Executive VP Becker sold 30,000 shares on 9 Feb.
That adds up to 210,139 shares unloaded in the last two weeks.

And in 4Q 2009:
CFO Halter sold 5,000 shares on 22 Dec.
President Bastian sold 30,000 shares on 18 Dec.
Executive VP Gorman sold 110,556 shares on 18 Dec.
CFO Halter sold 25,000 shares on 17 Dec.
Executive VP Hauenstein sold 20,000 shares on 16 Dec.
CFO Halter sold 10,000 shares on 30 Nov.
President Bastian sold 20,000 shares on 25 Nov.
President Bastian sold 10,000 shares on 6 Nov.
President Bastian sold 7,500 shares on 28 Oct.
That's 153,806 shares unloaded in 4Q 2009.

Total executive transactions in five months = 363,945 shares sold, none purchased.

These guys appear to have no confidence in their own company.

Full Insider Transactions Sales, Dispositions and Acquisitions. The number of shares you quote is small compared to the total of shares held.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=DAL

Example: Anderson got 357,945 shares on 4-Feb and sold 67,078 shares on 19-Feb.

According to your link they've unloaded 491,219 shares in the last 6 months, bought none.

Total held by insiders is 4.76M shares.

Please don't confuse us with accurate facts. The thread was started with the sole purpose of trying to prove that the CEO of DL has no confidence in his own airline. Nothing more. He, in fact, may not, but he could have just sold for the cash as well. No one here will know. Not even the OP.

Not equally risky.

DL shareholders have a history of getting burned even worse than DL "loyalty" program customers, and DL "loyalty" program customers have a history of getting burned worse than even USD holders these past couple of years.

When insiders are net sellers (and big net sellers at that) they are desperate for cash (perhaps because of poor personal financial management, jointly and/or severally) and/or they think there are better opportunities out there than the company whose stock they are dumping.

Totally agree with you. However, are there other financial considerations a seller could have? College tuition coming up? Wants a bigger and better house? Who knows. I don't.
