Delta does back down

Seems the goods folks in SAV had a complaint about high Delta fares. The town's business people even got togther to send a letter to Delta complaining about the fares to Atlanta.

Check out the result here: http://savannahnow.com/exchange/2010...ta-coming-down

Although Delta denied that fares where unreasonable, they substantially dropped 14 an 21 day advance purchase fares to Atlanta. I guess it does pay to complain.

Taking credit for market forces? If people aren't willing to pay high fares, DL lowers the fares.

Does anybody really think DL reacts to letters from the local chamber or executive director of the airport complaining about high fares? Take a look at the history for CVG and CVG's previous position as tops for highest fares in the US. There were constant complaints yet DL didn't budge because the market was still willing to pay.

Good to hear some people making a good change for DL. 450 was a ridiculous price at21 days advance.

Ultimately they did budge when CVG began to look like a prime location for a LCC to set up shop.

I dont see how that article shows that the letter helped at all. What I see is DL looking at the loads and realizing that they werent selling tickets to non-business travelers out of SAV.

Looking over the next couple of weeks there are a ton of seats (and I do mean a TON) available for purchase which is what drove DL to drop ticket prices not some letter from a chamber of commerce.

Time will tell if this is was a coincidence. Check the prices frequently for the next few months and see if there's further fluctuation. Only time will tell if it's market forces or an effort by DL to permanently change the fares.
