Best way to get my parents upgraded

I am taking my parents to Orlando next month. I would like to get them into first class. I have PMUs I am willing to use, I am also platinum, so I have companion upgrades as well. What is my best strategy to get us into first class - is there a limit to the number of companions I can use my PMUs on? I am flying from Boston to Orlando if that makes any difference.

Companion UG's will put you and them near the bottom of the UG list. Ability to use the PMU's will be dependant on DL releasing UG inventory, but may well be your best route to ensure getting your parents UG'd, so call, call early, call often until the inventory is released. Good luck!

What fare class are the tickets? PMU's can only be used on Y, B, M, H, Q, K (for domestic,
Y, B, M for international). Same for domestic companion upgrades (which will be
even tougher to get).

L, U, T don't qualify either way.

I moved out of MCO before they significantly downsized the sheer number of seats in and out (and before the merger). But it was always one of the easiest stations for upgrades, because of all the leisure travellers. Very rarely did I fail to score an upgrade in the four-plus years I lived there... and often they were still selling them at the gate at boarding time.

Of course, it's always a bit of a gamble because MCO flights are the absolute worst experiences in coach.

Why? Kids? Amateurs?

I'll gladly trade you the 75 kids on your next MCO flight for the 23 wheel chairs on my next FLL departure.

This is what I did on BOS-MCO last summer. There were 3 of us. I upgraded myself & grandpa to F with a PMU & listed grandma for the companion upgrade knowing that, if all else failed, i would sit in Y.

What happened was that at the upgrade window there was V inventory so i took a V upgrade for myself and grandma was upgraded as a companion as well.
