SkyMiles for upgrades?

SkyMiles for upgrades?
I move around between different airlines for my work travel, maybe 10 - 12 trips a year. I have about 22k miles after the NW/Delta merge.
I have a couple family trips (4 tickets) booked on Delta, and I was looking to see if these miles could be used for some luxuries or incidentals. I think it would be nice to to upgrade seats, or pay for checked baggage, or maybe a drink / food on the flight. It looks like this is not an option with SkyMiles? I'd rather use these instead of paying the nickel & dime fees...
Did I miss something on the website? The only Delta option is to buy a ticket?

Actually,
there is the marketplace:
https://marketplace.delta.com/index.aspx
where you can exchange your miles for gift cards and other stuff.
But I don't think there is an option to use the miles for upgrades/luggage/food etc. at least not on a flight.
