Question Need some info on group rates

Alot of these cruise sites only cater to people that need 1 cabin. Do you get a discount if you purchase more than 1? I was thinking about planning a big family cruise towards the end of December (expensive, but it is the only time available). December 30th to be exact.

We were going to need about 5 rooms. About 3 insides and 2 balconies. Roughly 19 people. I have stayed 5 to a room before and have absolutely no problem. To me, a room is just a place to sleep.

Are there any sites out there? TIA.

I have booked 3 cabins and did not get any better rate. The only discount you can get if to have sailed with the cruise line before or to live in a state that the cruise line is targeting - like AZ.

I know that at least with Royal Caribbean, you need to book at least 8 cabins to get a discount

I see. Even with the discount. Is it worth spreading out my group? Say....2 or 3 to a room instead of 4 or 5. If the discount isn't going to be that great then it won't really matter. Doesn't seem that hard for me to go from 5 rooms to 8 rooms. Also. For people that are saying that you have to have sailed with them before. Only the person that has sailed with them will get the discount or the whole group? Thanks alot. I will also visit the forums recommended.

If you are a former passenger, some lines will give the entire group the discount. Others will only give the discount to the cabin that the past passenger will stay in.

Good luck.

Most cruises have a fairly significant discount for the 3rd and 4th (and 5th passenger) in any room. I'm thinking you might want to just price out the different scenarios for per passenger average cost. For example, if 8 rooms gets you any type of discount on all passengers for all rooms vs. having 5 rooms where mostly the 3rd, 4th and 5th passengers are discounted.

I've had very good prices and service booking cruises with crucon.com , so that's another place you might want to contact.

I'd also be interested in hearing back if you do find any good resources for group discounts as I'm looking at a family group cruise in the future, too.

Good luck!

As a general overview-Most cruiselines require you to book X amount of cabins (8 for RCI, 11 for Celebrity, etc.) and you get one cabin free. So if you book 8, you get 9 for the 8 price. There is your discount-the last cabin divided by however many cabins you had to book to get the free cabin. That does not take into account discounts given by a TA.

Also, TA's, especially large TA's (online or bricks and mortar) often book 20 or so cabins as a "group" and sell them off individually at discounted prices. Try cruisecompete.com. Put in your sailing, how many cabins, and let various agencies bid on your travel. At least it will let you know what is out there.

Unless you are booking suites or have a lot of children, I would think carefully at putting more than 2 adults in most cruise cabins. Small bathrooms which accomodate TWO at best (tight fit), not a lot of storage or closet space. Also, there are limited cabins on ANY ship which have space for 4 adults. Most of the quad cabins are 2 twins which can be made into a queen and a sofa bed. Great for kids, not so great for adults. There are generally very few of the bunk bed type cabins on any cruise ship.

Unless you are students on a tight budget or have a lot of children to accommodate, I would spread everyone out-two adults per cabin, unless it's a suite.

Just wanted to claify a bit. If you book 8 cabins you get 1 free berth = cost of the cabin class you booked the majority of your cabins in - tax and port charges. ex. if you booked 6 cabins inside cabin and 2 balcony you would get the cost of the inside cabin - taxes and port charges as your free berth.

Depending on when you book your cruise ask about amenity points. Different cruises get different points which you can turn into perks for your group i.e free photos, cocktail reception, cabin credits
