Wedding OnBoard

My fiancee and I have decided that we'd like to be married aboard a cruiser.

Does anyone have any info about cruises ex-Australia (or even ex-SIN arriving Australia) which will allow us to get married on board, or stop at locations perfect for a wedding (I've suggested, without much research, Novatel Noumea's grounds, or something similar).

Would love to hear from anyone with info on weddings onboard

I could be wildly misinformed, but my understanding is that ship's Captains can no longer perform a legal ceremony. However, many ships do have a member of the Clergy on-board, so, perhaps, that would be considered a legitimate marriage ceremony. As you are sailing South Pacific, you might want to look into a Fijian ceremony. Friends of ours did this and it sounded quite wonderful.

My step-sister had the same plans & ran into the same problem - ship's captains can't do weddings anymore. I second the idea of a Fijian wedding - absolute paradise!!

A ship's Captain can renew your vows at sea. Of course, it is nothing official, but it is impossibly romantic. Captain Dahl on the Sea GoddessII (now Sea Dream) did this for me and my husband on our 25th wedding anniversary.

Timely question. Go find a current copy of Porthole magazine - I threw mine in a hotel garbage can before I checked out this morning, sorry. I don't know how easy it would be to obtain outside the US, but there may be a website. There is an entire article on weddings on cruise ships and a table that lays out, by line, what is available. I recall one line where weddings could be held on board, I think. What surprised me was that some lines still allowed non-sailing guests for on-board ceremonies.

Thanks for the help guys. I've actually found out after posting that the ships in the Princess Line are the only vessells whos captains can marry you whilst sailing. I like the suggestion of using an onboard clergy tho - hadn't thought about that but now will.

Doing some reasearch, I've found that you must be in Fiji 3 days before wedding, and should you choose to marry in New Caledonia, you both must be there 30 days prior.

Doing some reasearch about islands which cruise ships stop at, I found a lovely hotel in Tahiti however the conversion from Francs to Australian Dollars would near kill me. $300 AUD a night for base accommodation is just a tad bit too much for my liking.

Anyway will keep you posted with the wedding plans

Thanks again.
