Advice on re-positioning cruises?

We are travelling RTW and wondered if there were any cheap repositioning cruises to NA? Advice?

1) "Cheap" is in the eye of the beholder.

2) NA ?= North America

3) Who's planning the rest of this RTW trek?

On the "mainstream" lines, I've seen $50/day pp on Transatlantics without looking too hard when they move their ships from Europe back to the Caribbean in the late fall.

TATL is easy but seasonal. Westbound in August to December with most ships moving to the Caribbean and South America in October and November. East bound in March through June. North America-Eeuope is cheaper than South America to Europe (though what you may get on the "European" lines may differ from what the N. American/European lines (most owned by 2 U.S.-HQ'd outfits) offer/include.

If it fits into your plans, RCCI is moving one of its goliaths to Europe September next year and bringing it back 6 weeks later so an opportunity to go eastbound in the autumn for potentially cheap (6,000 berths is a lot to fill for a repo).

Not so easy on TPAC or say Europe<=>Asia as there are much fewer ships being moved around and the trips are designed to be an adventure and hence are highly priced. Same for crossing on the Atlantic out of repo season. Reason is these offer a lot of stops which your typical cruiser wants. Fewer stops = fewer pax = lower fares.

Actually the Oasis TA is selling rapidly (and not cheaply). A lot of people have been waiting for that repo.

I am a big fan of the repositioning cruise, having done several on the Sea Goddess (now Sea Dream). We always sailed the South Atlantic, starting in Madeira or Canary Islands to the Caribbean. The sea in October was always very very calm; almost lake-like. The ship always made a stop on an island prior to our final destination. A few times it was St. Barts, another Antigua or Anguilla. My understanding from the crew members is that the calmer waters are to be found going from Europe to Caribbean in late fall as opposed to the other direction in late spring. Great time to relax, unwind and catch up on your reading. We loved those cruises.

Yes... I finally did one and really liked it. My travelling companions weren't quite so happy with it, and I discovered you have to be the sort of person who doesn't need stimulation or entertainment all of the time (though there is usually some of each onboard). Helps if you're capable of 'making your own fun' on those long sea days. Mmmm, now see? The very phrase 'long sea days' is enticing to me

Took one FLL to Rome 15 days. I loved it, dh not so much. Depends if you like sea days or not. Cheesey entertainment etc. Did our own port trips and enjoyed those. Some people ate and ate and ate. Can be a very cheap way to get to/from Europe or expensive depending on which ship you take. Second looking at vacationstogo.com for choices.

Just looked at the stops. Seems it's all about being at sea.
Do you know what the attraction is for the Oasis TA?

Probably the ship and all it (purportedly) has to offer? Over a week of whatever w/o ports getting in the way like the normal run it does out of Southern Florida.

I'd be curious to see what the fares are later next year.

As YVR Cockroach says, it's the ship. Many people who would never want to do a transatlantic are doing one solely because of the amount of time on the ship - to actually take advantage of all that is offered.

Me I wouldn't mind an all sea day cruise, but as I have no desire to go on Oasis (and I'm a Royal Caribbean fan), I'd rather do it on another ship.
