Question redeeming fixed flight point to Asia

Hello everyone,

I am planning on redeeming two fixed flight points to asia but I have a few questions since this will be my first time redeeming.

1.) Is the redemption still 80,000pts/ticket to Asia on economy for a value up to $1600?

2.) If it is, I currently found a flight that is about $1598. Willl the $80,000 points cover all the expenses?

3.) Do I need to pay taxes or any fees when I'm redeeming?

4.) Any other things I should be aware of before I call?

Thanks so much in advance.

Also, I am assuming that I can book a flight to asia that has a few stopovers and connections as long as its below $1600 like SFO-LAX-Shanghai(PVG)-Tokyo(NRT)-SFO. Am I correct?

No multi-city trip on TYP redemption. Therefore connections are OK, stopovers are NOT.

You pay taxes and fees on top of the value, so your 80K pts let you redeem up to $1600 for ticket only, taxes and fees extra, you pay by CC.

Not knowing what you plan to do with your redemption - whether this is an actual trip or gaming for airline credit, no one can help you.

Just a reminder, some airlines have extremely restrictive rules for re-use of value from a cancelled international ticket.

You should make sure you understand the rules of your targeted airline before you proceed.

Thanks Happy for your reply,

My actual intention is to go on a multi-city trip to asia including tokyo and shanghai.

From your response, I guess that won't be possible with the 80k redemption to asia.

What would be the best way to obtain two multi-city asia tickets with around 180k thank you points.

Should I go with the 90k business ticket and then using the credit voucher to book a multi-city trip with that particular airline?

No multi-city redemption for TYP. So I really dont understand your question about 2 multi-city asia tickets from TYP redemption.

Tickets can only be originated from US so if you want to go to both NRT and PVG, then 2 tickets from US to each place and back to US round trip.

I apologize, let me clarify.

My partner and I will be going on vacation this summer to both nrt and pvg on one trip. Since TYP does not do multi-city redemptions, I guess the only way to obtain what I want is to use the points that I have to obtain two 90k business tickets, then use the credits to purchase two tickets to nrt and pvg.

Didn't you already ask the same thing back in late January?

You could have redeemed for $2700 value if you have done it when I answered your questions on January 28. Now you only have $1800.

Not quite. He is asking about an economy ticket. That reduction is only for business tickets. The value for coach tickets has always been 1:2.

I remember back in late January he originally asked for the 90K $2700 redemption, but then he claimed he was not comfortable doing it, as his plan was to do tha Asia travel, and he was worrying that he could not use the value of cancelled ticket for the Asia trip.

My reply to him was either he waited till his travel plan firmed up, then just redeem it at 1:1 for his trip to Asia in Economy, or went the route everybody was doing, looking at it from the "value preservation" mindset. He could have enough airline cash to cover the Asia trip in economy and then have a tidy balance left for future trips, had he made up his mind back then.

Search function is down now. Otherwise, I can immediately find his previous post(s) on this topic. But then, it is moot as there is no turning back. He would have to make do what he can now - which he already posted again about a potential $1800 90K redemption and someone posted the correct way of calculation to him.
