Recommendations for a new card

Hi -Newb here looking for some recommendations on a new card. I currently have a AT&T that gives Thank You rewards points with no annual fee. The problem with that is that I max out at 75,000 points per year so I need a second card.

I am a silver elite with UA and rarely travel any airlines other than Star Alliance but since I must use a company card for travel I can't get credit card points when I purchase my airline tickets.

I wouldn't mind a card to allow me to add to my UA miles (the UA Visa is currently giving 30K bonus points) but I'm worried about having all my rewards in a single airline program (what if they fail - I don't want to lose all my points).

I have a personal family trip COS to HNL later this year so maybe something with a companion fare (?) but the threads I've been reading indicate that most companion fares aren't worth it. Also something attractive to me would be UA lounge access.

I don't want to pay over $100 annual fee unless I get some real benefit for it.

I've been reading threads here and other card comparison sites and now my head hurts. I'm hoping for a couple recommendations here that will allow me to then sort through a short list. Thanks...

Since you're already into Thank You points, you should probably be looking for another Citi card with TY. They have some fee-free cards, which you can find by going to citi.com. Note that TY points can be valuable for getting free flights (well, you have to pay the taxes), read some of the other threads here on how to maximize the cash value of your points.

From my standpoint, I'd go for one of the following two:

SPG Amex: 1 SPG points per dollar spent. You can convert 1 SPG point into 1.25 miles for almost all airline programs. You can convert whenever to whatever. 10k points after 1st purchase, $45 annual fee, 1st year fee waived.

Citi Driver's Edge MC: 6% (i.e. 6 TYP) back per dollar spent for supermarkets, gas stations, drug stores. No annual fee.

If it were me, I'd do both.

try the CITI PLAT AMEX --- this is CITI's version of the AMEXcard. You get:

1) Thank You points and since you are already earning points, this will help. You can earn 3 pts per $ spent for the first year up to 150k per year. Once your year is over, cancel and repeat.

2) No annual fee

3) Priority Pass -- which allows into approx 450 lounges around the world.

I would suggest you stick to TYP since the program lets you buy tickets and then EARN miles on them unlike AWARD tickets which donot let you eanr miles.

This is the way to go. And if 150k cap on typ is to low, you can just apply for the 2nd one like I did. now my cap is 300k for 2 cards per calendar year.

Happy New Year!!!

If you really don't mind paying more than $100, then yeah, I'd go with the previous two posters as well.

No annual fee for the first year, $125 each additional year. 5 TYP for supermarkets, drug stores, gas stations; 3 TYP for all else.

Year-long free 3-bureau credit reporting, $99 membership to Priority Pass and then 3 free lounge visits.

I'm currently going with both Citi Plat Amex and SPG Amex myself...

Just my two cents. If you're looking for points, the SPG AMEX card is the best value, in my opinion. Transfers to most major airlines are at 1:1, and you get a 25% bonus when you transfer in chunks of 20K.

Whatever you decide upon, be sure to get the best bonuses for obtaining the card by looking in the Credit Card section of my website below.
