Does citis CRs make a commission on credit protector?

I called citibank last week for something else and the CR forced me into credit protector. I repeatedly told him not to sign me up for it But he put it on my account anyways.

then today I called citi to cancel it. They were still trying to sell it to me. trying to convince me that I am making the biggest mistake by not taking it. I was on the phone for like 15 min with the CR because they were still trying to sell me on this credit protector.

wow. I have never been so pressured in my life.

That will teach you to call up citi for customer service

Don't know if they make a commission on credit "protector," but, at the least, they must be rated on how many they sell. Kinda like traffic cops with ticket quotas.

Generally, the worse the value, the harder the sell.

I use Chase, which of course has a similar product, and it was pushed hard on me as well. What drives me crazy is getting checks for $20 or $25 to sign up for these things. I myself will never cash these, but I worry that others do and end up with an extra $10 per month in charges.
See http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thech...ore_bills.html

A little googling turned up this:

Threaten Citi that you'll "go all Ted Rothstein on them." They'll be shaking in their boots.

I usually say I already have the service. This works well most of the time. How can one sell one again if I already have one?
No one gets hurt emotionally, that's extra plus.

There's no harm in cashing them if you don't carry a balance. This used to be a nice bonus for those who went through the trouble of churning cards with Chase, but sadly, that's over.

I dont go to the bank. so its a waste for me to go to the bank, stand in line just to deposit 15$.

Actually they gave me a 15$ check.

I've gone through this with them twice:
  1. When I call to cancel, rep tells me they can't cancel it because I just signed up for it and the sign-up hasn't gone through yet. I tell him that if he can't cancel the credit protector, can he just cancel the entire card? He cancels the credit protector.
  2. I write them a letter to cancel it. It's less hassle than calling them, preserves my rights and deprives them of an opportunity to annoy me.

I read teds transcript. he actually said sign me up. I told the guy do not sign me up and I was forced into it

I think if I had a recorded my convo someone would have gotten fired.

because he told me to enter the 4 digits of your cc# to confirm. and I asked confirm what? I told you I dont want CP.
He made it sound as if it was an ID check. But from looking at Tim Rothsteins transcript I see that it is a crdit protector acceptance confirmation.

Deception at its finest. If Rothstein pulled 1.6 MIL from citi and he actually consented to it......
