Thanks Mia for the advice. Upon further review, it does appear that I would "catch up" to the 25k bonus points on PPE in about 5 months. I'm pretty sure I can hit the max $1,000 rebate on the DE card which would translate into 100,000 points in a year's time. If I were to use the PPE card for these everyday expenses (2 pts/ $1 spent) I would earn approx 1800-2000 points / month. I'd be lucky to hit 50k points overall for a year using this card. If I happen purchase a flight or two, then I might come close to the 100k points that I would earn with the DE card.
DE card is best for us. Just thought I would share.
BTW, anyone know if I can combine wife's points and my points on TY network or do they have to remain separate?

As a Driver's Edge Options cardmember, you may redeem your Driver’s Edge Options Rebates (“Rebates”) for rewards offered through ThankYouSM Network. In order to use your Driver’s Edge Rebates in ThankYou Network, you must first convert your Rebates to ThankYou Network Points (“ThankYou Points”). Each $1 in Rebates can be converted into 100 ThankYou Points.
