What is not clear with these cards - is the cashback is limited to $3000/year spend, in other words - you will get $150 cashback max, or the cashback itself you can get is limited to $3000 per year?
Second question - is mobile wallet spend has MCC exclusion categories? |

AR is not a travel card, it's a cashback card, you don't need to travel in order to get 4.5% cashback on almost everything. There are also easy ways how to get $325 in cash, without spending a dime on travel or anything else. And, you do get points when you're also spending those $325 (I don't, because I just cash it).
I doubt that you average 4%, when you're limited in $1500 spend per quarter. I don't even consider those cards, I MS them every quarter. All my spend goes to unlimited cards, such as AR. https://www.usbank.com/credit-cards/...edit-card.html The point I was trying to make with the rotators is when you have a $1500/quarter cap, that's per card. When you have multiple 5% category cards, you essentially have a higher cap. Especially when there is one category per card that you hit a lot. Yes, if one card was used for my big three - dining, gas, and grocery - I'd gobble up my cap in no time. But, that's very rare, if ever. If I am lucky, I have one 5% card for dining, one for gas, and one for grocery. Essentially a $4,500 cap for this example. I don't spend $500 in any one category per month to reach the $500/mo cap. A little side story about 5% cards. I realized I hadn't collected my Nusenda CB in a while. I go to log on and my PW and UN did not work. I called and it turns out, after 1 year of not logging in, they reset all your login info. Doh! I get it sorted out, log in, and I had $603 CB sitting in there! OMG! |

Then I must be very confused about the AR card. I go to the product page and I see travel, travel, travel. Search for the word 'travel', it comes up 25 times. Search for the word 'cash', it comes up 0 times. I thought the 1.5x was only available through the USB Travel Portal. "Airport lounge, TSA, Rental cars, Infinite Luxury hotels, taxis, airlines, trains, cruise lines", etc. 3x points on travel. 5x points on hotels and car rentals. Wallet Hub voted it the best travel card. Business Insider calls it a travel card. nerdwallet compares it to other travel cards. Heck, the term 'Altitude' refers to airplanes. Seems like a travel card to me! But what do I know?

As an example, in order to get the 4.5% of value, the points have to be exchanged for travel, but only certain types of travel and only in certain amounts, and even when you qualify, it's still annoying as they send you a text message, which you have to reply to in order to cash-in your points. As I said, I'm a big AR fan, but it's not for everybody. |

I can see both sides on this discussion. I have the AR card and love it, but I'm happy to jump through their hoops in order to get the maximum value from it. I can see how someone who just wants a 'use & forget' card would not like it.

AR is a great card to build a simple portfolio. AR for mobile wallet + 2% transferable points card (or 3% cash back card) is a great and simple combo (e.g., for your wife) with adequate benefit (e.g., primary car rental, limited lounge access, purchase/travel protection).

Yes, agreed. I have to keep things VERY simple for my wife. I usually get a major eye roll every time I hand her a new card to use for a specific purchase!

I hear you guys with the "wife factor". My wife is pretty good at appeasing me. She does a good job at 'tolerating' the card juggling. I used to take each quarter's card's categories and create a business card size "cheat sheet" printout using AutoCAD; I'd print it, cut it, laminate it (i.e. packing tape) for my and mrs. ptatohed's wallets. That has stopped and the cheat sheets are now just sticky notes, lol. I did score some points with her recently when I got AOD because it replaced 3 cards!!!!!! - 3% AARP (gas and drug (used to be gas and dining)), 3% Savor (Dining, grocery, streaming, entertainment), and 2% Citi DC (everything).
|
I got the AOD cc a month ago and started using.
Their savings rate is only 0.15% Is there a reliable bank with higher than 0.6%? |

Did we mention Bank of the West Cash Back World? It has 3% on dining, gas, and groceries for the first $1500/qtr.

Is there an advantage in opening a savings a/c? I did not see a side by side comparison. It seems both a/c pays 1% - I can not see any advantage? |
The FordPass card, even if you had no use for all of the FordPass reward points you'll earn, gives a $200 statement credit every year you spend $6,000. That's essentially 3.33% CB when you spend exactly $6k. And, there is now a LincolnPass card which you can apply for separately which will allow $12k in spending when combined with the FordPass.
If you can use the FordPass points, even better! Can be applied to oil changes, etc. https://www.card.fnbo.com/ford/ |
